Listener Feedback: The Protest System

From DrOrzy:

Hey guys, just catching up on a cpl poddies so I’m a bit late.

Just listening to you guys talking about the Protest System – The biggest issue imo aside from the fact that it’s all kept behind closed doors is that there’s no real consequences for being a dick. Sure you get sat out for a week but is that really a punishment?! I understand from a business point of view that it might not be the smartest thing to start sitting out people for months at a time as I’m sure they will just end up leaving. HOWEVER, if it really is about teaching and learning from the moment, then why not bring in a system where the perpetrators must suffer a real consequence and prove themselves before getting back to the real racing?!

So my idea is sort of dishing out a Probationary licence which can vary in different grades depending on the severity or regularity of repeat offenders. This way they still have access to the service but are forced to learn from their mistakes before given the full licence back.

For example something like for a light offence you must complete 2 Rookie races with a maximum of 5 or 6 X’s per race. This will allow for someone running into them but at the same time force them to think about their race craft so as not to cause any extra X’s themselves.
For more severe cases and especially repeat offenders they can be handed a “Practice only” Probationary license where they must complete a given number of minimum HOURS and laps before being back allowed to race in officials.

NASCAR iRacing Series

Friday Open – NiS – Watkins Glen

  • Kyle – P10 had a sloppy start to the race. Started P9 and picked off a few spots in the first 3 laps and then avoiding a wreck I lost the car and slammed the left side again. Pitted instantly to avoid driving with damage and being slow.. 12 seconds of damage and I was back to speed. I came out 29th and just rocketed my way through cars. Pitted on lap 29 and came out just in front of the leader but my tires were too cold to hold him off so I just matched his lap times staying a half a second off his bumper. Finally with about 8 to go we started catching traffic so I backed off to let him split the cars up and then I pounced on 5 spots in 2 laps and just drove away to finish P10. I’ll take the 0x with a SR gain and the IR gain.

Sunday Open- NiS – Watkins Glen

  • Tom – P7
  • Kyle – P5 started P7 and just ran the piss out of the front tires for 27 laps and had made it to P3. Pitted and just held on for the rest of the race. Half spun into turn 1 and lost a couple of spots to bring it home P5.

Sunday Fixed- NiS – Watkins Glen

  • Kyle – P8 Started P7 and just hung around the top 10 all race. Midway lap car decided he didn’t want to give in and took my line into the bus stop so I dove through the grass and he doored me causing a small amount of damage and then claimed he didn’t know I was there. Guess his spotter was on a pee break. Coming to 1 to go, the crew chief says pit now and I had less than a lap of fuel left. Decided to stay out and just had to baby it around to save fuel. Turn 10 it sputters and by the end of turn 11 I had to coast to the finish.

Wednesday Open -NiS – Richmond

  • Kyle – P Wrecked. The car was great was playing the halfway strategy and just bounced back and forth through the field. On my last restart I got collected in a wreck and had over 10 minutes of damage. I’m one and done at Richmond. Can’t stand the nonstop cautions.
  • Chris – P 26. Got loose and wrecked myself. 18 cautions… rough night.
  • David – P11.  Started in the pits, immediate caution put me a lap down, piddled around a half a lap behind the pack for the first 100 laps, and got the lucky dog.  At some point I worked into the top 10.  Running 6 on a late restart and got straight left hooked while being all the way up against the wall.  Limp home 11th cause so many other cars were worse off. This racing is beyond trash, but you can protest saying fuck, but can’t protest guys who race like fucks.
  • Brad- P15 Started p9 and drove up to the front early. Was collected in a wreck about half way and had to fight back from a lap down and get damage fixed. The race was a total disaster in regards to race craft, 21 yellows for 87 laps. As the laps were winding down I was back in the top 10 and making my way back to the front. Last restart I was able to drive to p2 and just after taking the white flag, I was disconnected from the server. What a waste of 2.5 hours. So defeated and frustrated. If it could go wrong  this season, it has.

Thursday Open- NiS – Richmond

  • Mike- P wrecked out got involved in one of the mini cautions with three minutes damage was able to get almost all of it fixed before I eventually spun by myself causing caution got tagged several times and it killed the car DNF.

Official Series

Gen 4

  • Ellis – P car number 10 out of 16 at Dover start a 12. A clean race no cautions at all green flag stop at halfway where I blew a right front and I was able to bring it home p9
    • Had a good run I pinned on an early caution and no one else did didn’t catch any other cautions let some laps, what I needed to blew a tire with three to go pitted on the white but still finished P4

A Open

  • Brad W – P14 I spun during qualifying and started at the back. Again, another race with no race craft. I was collected in multiple wrecks and did nothing but rack up incident points. Was able to work way to the front and raced the last 50 laps with 16x and 1x away from a drive through. Last lap running in p6, turn 3 p4 sends it from about 10 cars back and hits me and spins himself out and that gives me a drive through and I get out to last on the lead lap. You just can’t make this stuff up. If there is a way out of my control to have a good run ruined, it is happening to me.

C Open

  • Kyle P6 – Watkins Glen started P10. I decided to go with strategy and save fuel for a handful of laps. Saved enough which saved my tires to not have to pit and after about 7 laps of falling to the back and saving fuel. I hammered down and just ran hot laps for the rest of the race. Working my way up to the front I see an old friend and decide that’s my goal to beat him. After about 4 laps of tracking him down it took 2 laps to get around him and set sail for the finish. 1st-6th didn’t pit and it looks like that was the right strategy to get a good finish. Watkins Glen was good to me this week. I think this might be my favorite road course.

Ring Meister

  • Mike – P SRF started P2 went into the grass trying to pass. Somebody fell back to 13th and rallied back to finish ninth with a classic game of chicken at the end and we both wrecked out. Basically it was super fun.
    • Ran again, started second fell back to seventh ended up getting squeezed off and a tight corner and wrecked.
    • Start a P2 finish P4 had nothing for the top three they were faster
    • Then we switched to pro Mazda at the ring start at eight finish p seven.
    • Started at 11th out of 22 getting wrecked out and the first lap ended up launching over a curb trying to miss a different wreck and killed my car DNF
    • Was running fifth had a spin when someone ahead of me had spun save the car work my way back up and come into the checker. The guy behind me tried to overtake me on the final breaking, but missed the breaking point went across the grass and plowed me hard DNF about 50 yards from the finish line.
    • Next race qualified fifth finish ninth we finally finish but I did get wrecked with the car was OK so I was able to finish saw a massive unsafe rejoin. The guy was in the grass. Two of us were coming up the hill. He comes straight across the entire track right in front of us and get T-bone by one guy I barely missed.
    • Start a 10th finish 12 straightforward race.

IMSA

  • Brad W – P4. This was a good race. No major issue and had a good time trying to run down p3 towards the end. Somehow managed to only pick 2x over the entire race. I wish I could have run more of them but time was tight last week.
  • William W- Daytona P2,P2, P2, P2, P11, P8 – won’t talk about all of them or we’d be here an hour. The P2s were all good races but nothing out of the ordinary. Qualified around 2-5 for all of them and kept it consistent. Just couldn’t get over the hump for a win. Close on some, others the P1 was just way faster. The P11 I messed up qualifying. Spun lap 1 and lap 2 was .5 a lap slower that I had been all week on lap 2. Started 16th which put me in the middle of the messiest split I’ve seen in some time for all 3 classes. GT3 crashed before the line. Made it through but got some damage that cost some time on the oval portion. On about lap 9 place in front of me chopped my nose and spun himself, would have been fine but an oblivious GTP behind us never hit the brake. Spun me and caused wheel damage. Pit and fixed 4.5 min of repairs and still was able to finish 11th. Would have been 9th but had to splash fuel on the last lap. Proud of the P8. First time truly in top split IMSA with the exception of single split weeks. SOF of 3800. There were a couple aliens up front that were .5 a lap faster, but overall held my own in the 2.8-4k range. Tried real hard for 7th but good defending from him.

League / Hosted Races

Grass Roots Racing

GTP/GT3 League – Road Atlanta Sprint Race

  • William W –  P Last. Hardware failure on lap 8. Started dropping frames as soon as the green flag dropped after not having issues at all during 40 min of practice, 10 min of qualifying and another race previously. Caused an off track on lap 2. And then on 8 frames dropped to 10. Undriveable. Just tried to get off the track and out of peoples way and parked it. Not the way I was looking for my favorite track to go, but seemingly having more and more issues since the season 2 update. My overnight stints at Spa had issues with frames and so did a previous league race. Wiped the computer and seems to have helped but still not as smooth as it should be. Starting to get real old from the client.
  • Brad W – P6 overall and p5 in class. This has historically been a horrible track for me. I normally have decent pace but just have struggled to finish. The racing in this league is so good. We had 42 cars on track and everyone was really respectful all race long. I started toward the front and was able to stay in top 7-8 all race. Planning to get a couple officials in this week but they are a lot warmer temps than what GRR ran.

IROC Challenge Series Season 10 Daytona Race 1

  • Kyle P4 started P19 Started out like most super speedways just clicking off laps. Got involved in a midway wreck collected by TJ Majors. After using my 1 quick repair I was back on the hunt for the front. On the last caution we went green with 4 to go and I just stayed glued to the car in front of me. Until the last lap turn 2 I darted out and got a big run and jumped to 4th. Coming to the line, the top 5 spread out and I’m gaining quickly on the top 3 but just ran out of track to bring it home P4.

Sim Gaming Expo Semifinal

  • Brad W – P was wrecked out. I don’t think I had any chance to advance but really hated to get taken out after just 10 minutes of racing. The cars ahead of me really messed up coming out of the LeMans chicane. That gave me a great run and I had to shoot the middle to avoid hitting. The guy on the inside just decided to turn right and go up the track and take me and another driver out. One of the most stupid moves I’ve ever seen. That move took about 4 cars out. It would have been great to finish the race at least.
  • Greg- wrecked out
  • David – P21 – these guys were stupid fast
  • Mike P18 – started tail NP 25 had a very clean race no mistakes no nothing got as high as P 17 and finished P 18.

Hosted-

  • Ellis – Del Laura Dash at Talladega start at seven ended up winning winner winner chicken dinner made a great move up the middle to get my final track position
    • 87’s at Talladega got wrecked out on the White fighting for the win. One of the admin was involved and thought I caused it and actually black flagged me. I spoke up saying I actually got hit from behind so the next race I actually got a nice apology.
    • Supercars at Michigan got wrecked out while leading. Had come from the back.
