NASCAR 25 Ok, iRacing Not Ok

@gizmodo.com

The GameSir Swift Drive, announced during CES 2026, is a surprisingly complete controller by itself. You’ve likely already noticed the giant steering wheel stuck into the center of the controller. When I first wrapped my hands around it, I expected to thumb a loose-feeling circle laid awkwardly in the middle of the device. In reality, the wheel hums with force feedback you usually get with high-end racing wheels. When a car rolls over gravel or rocky terrain, you’ll feel the push and pull of the wheel under your thumbs. That’s due to the miniaturized drive motor and an additional three haptic motors to offer a visceral feel. No, you won’t be tricked into imagining you’re driving a real Ferrari at 200 mph. It’s simply a more enjoyable way to take your digital car out for a drive. We’ve got way more to say on our first impressions at our link in bio. Official Series

Toyota GR 86cup series fixed

  • Mike- p3- started on Paul but didn’t have enough speed fell back to third had a guy in fourth beaten on me over and over and I think he was trying to intentionally wreck me at one point, but I still beat him and got a nice podium P3
    • Add made a few mistakes during this race, but still finish P5

A Open

  • Kyle P – P3 Started 5 and kept in the top 5. Pitted on lap 33 and was going to stretch the fuel. Restarted 16th and just worked my way towards the front.  After reaching P5 caution comes out with 19 to go pit for tires and come out P5.  On the restart P2 spins his tires and check ups the whole outside lane. Set sail and brough it home P3.

Ring Meister

  • Mike – P Cadillac CTSV couldn’t practice with the AI because it mixed it up with the ford first race started P 10 out of 24 . Wrecked out turned one car feels very unstable.
    • Qualified P2. Quickly got to the lead, but then spot on my own fell back to P 22 then rally to finish P8.
    • Qualified fifth spun out, fell to the back and started coming back up was going up the hill. Somebody was spun after the fast blind corner and he was literally sideways across the entire track. There was nowhere to go two of us T-bones in.
    • Start a P2, but racked out on my own. This car is so hard.
    • Then started on pole position and drove away from the field with nobody challenging me and ended up with a 22 second lead at the end winner winner chicken dinner I win every week except for the GT four in this series!!!
    • Then started on Paul position drove away from the field and finished with the 28 second lead another win two in a row
    • Then top split started on P5 halfway through the second lap I spun out of P3 all by myself by hitting the curbs and killed us

IMSA

  • Hall – P3 and p7 and the glen, iRating creeping up towards 2000 again, not even trying, just been good tracks for me

Draftmaster

  • Doug-P 6,7,16,21 been qualifying 9th through 12th. Running Daytona trying to stay out of trouble and find good drafting partners. Also ran Talladega in the carb cup qualified 10th with a 4th place finish.

League / Hosted Races

Grass Roots Racing

GTP/GT3 League – Off Week

  • David – P Still out in space some where after getting yeeted violently when a car in front of me wrecked

Elbows Out Racing League (LMP2 and GT3 Wednesday Nights)

  • William- P3 – got an off track on my second quali lap so had to start pretty far back around 12th. Was able to go up the field decently fast and think I had P4 by lap 8 but by that point I was about 8 seconds back. I didn’t have time to do any practice at Watkins before quali. Thought I’d be okay but was about .4 off the pace of the top 3. Found the pace by about the last 10 laps but I was already way too far behind. Kept it clean the rest of the race and managed a P3. Not bad for first time being in the rig since the 24.

Hosted-

  • Ellis – P Chris McGuire old Indy cars at Michigan ended up wrecked out.
    • Send Jen for a Talladega winner winner chicken dinner. It ended up being a fuel race, but I pulled it off and made the right move at the right time.
    • IndyCar Indy got wrecked out
    • Pick up cup at Phoenix qualified 15th.

Official Series

Daytona 24 Hour

  • Brad, Will, Jacob & William – P6 – What a race! Started p16 and would find ourselves as the the top finishing non-Porsche car in the GT3 Class. We had some unforced errors by other cars, a couple of pins and a disconnect along the way. We had zero chance because of the horrible BOP that gifted teh Porsche with extended fuel capacity, great drafting and ridiculous stability through the bus stop. But all that said, we had a great time, some of us learned how not to prepare for a 24 hour endurance race and get to know each other over the course of 24 hours.
  • Mike, Tom, David And Kyle – P3 I got a 42nd penalty on Pitt Road because I went to the left of the yellow cone two other drivers wrecked out, causing us to lose the lead and fall back to third and we were able to keep that position.  We stayed close to the leader and they had a self spin giving us a 6 minute lead.  A car spun in front of Kyle, unavoidable.  We fall behind.  They put their very low skilled driver in we get it back and are swapping the lead with them.  A LMP2 spins across the track in front of me, unavoidable, 12 mines of repair.   Wrecked out of the lead twice.

Toyota GR 86cup series fixed

  • Mike- p3/. Start a P4 had a fairly clean race and snookered the guy on the last lap to steal third and get a podium in my first run in this car at the ring.
    • Started on Paul position and was able to win it winner winner chicken dinner. I had a great battle with a guy for the first laugh and a half. It was pretty much full contact. He was roughing me up and I was racing him the same way he was doing me at one point he got a little squirrel in front of me and spun off my nose and I went on to win the race
    • Started on pole position me and one other guy ended up pulling out for a 27 second lead on the rest of the field he stayed with me the whole time I raced my butt off, but he never got to me and I won the race two in a row winner winner chicken dinner
    • Then started second got to the lead, but then got ran over from behind and dumped DNF

Ring Meister

  • Mike – POK, I just won in my first race attempt in this new car the Ford Mustang FR 500 S. Winner winner, chicken dinner the ring Meister gets it done and first attempt of the week. Stack them up.!!!!!
    • This time a top split started 14th got the third by the end of lap one in a very impressive run, but then I made a mistake and hit the wall and killed the car meatball.
    • Then started on whole position, but hit a curb and wrecked myself out while leading
    • Then started third and finished in P4 pretty uneventful race in top split the top three drove away from me. I had nothing for him. Thet gap be hard.
    • Then pull position fell to third about halfway through, but then got loose without even hitting curbs and spun it out and wrecked

League / Hosted Races

Week Nine – California

  • David – P9 – just how fast i was
  • Doug – P12 ran the race from the back of the pack, trying to learn from the other drivers and running consistent lap times finished three laps down mainly because of a black flag too fast entering the pits.
  • John – P14. Dead last. Got wrecked before we even made it to turn one. I don’t think it was done on purpose, but was the result of impatience. Someone should not have tried  to squeeze between my car and the wall five seconds into a race. Not smart.

Grass Roots Racing

GTP/GT3 League – Road Atlanta Sprint Race

  • William W –  P2 CHAMPION!
  • Brad W – P8 in class p11 overall after starting p26. Not my best track and should have finished higher but killed the tires over the last 10 laps. Almost ran out of fuel because the white was delayed a lap. Did not have a good showing in Season 6 and looking to make up for it in the mini season 6.5 that will start in two weeks. A huge congrats to the Season 6 GRR GT3 Pro Champion, Mr. William Westbrook!
  • David – P 11

Daytona Roar

  • Kyle-P5  drove the number 19 LMP3 started P20. Had to avoid the mess for the first handful of laps. Had a few self spins but was able to keep it up near the front shuffling between P5 to P10. Final stop i came out P9 and just focused on getting as many positions as possible and brought home a P5
  • Bobby – P2

A Open

  • Kyle P – P11 Started P7 and just stayed there. Lap 32 caution flys and We all pit I jump out of the pits P2. Survived a couple more restarts but on the last lap a driver decides its okey to just wall ride the turns and try and drive through me on turns 1 and 2. On turns 3 and 4 he does the same but this time takes me out. A protest was sure to follow.

Ring Meister

  • Mike – P super formula light at Ring Meister start a P2 was running P3 when second place basically drove through the leader and wrecked him real hard leader with only three wheels instead of four came across the track suddenly and I had nowhere to go but T-bone
    • Next started second coming into the final lap on the long street side-by-side for the lead he neck codes off of me and gets into the fence I survive and go onto to win the race winner winner chicken dinner
    • Next attempt was chasing the leader, trying hard, hit the  curbs and killed it
    • Next attempt had a great race with his leader until he wrecked out after putting heavy pressure on him and I went on to win again winner winner, chicken dinner
    • Next attempt had the race lead barely but made a mistake and spun out and gave up the win finished P2
    • Then switching cars to the pro Mazda start 10th ended up wrecking out
    • Then start 10th and finish P2
    • Then finally got qualified and started P4, but wrecked out by barely clipping a curb
    • Start a P6 finish P5. Those guys are almost two seconds a lot faster than me. There’s no way I am not competitive when it’s just one split.
    • Then started P6 was running third on lap one where the 2 L got into it. I got a piece but survived better than they did went onto gain on 11 second lead over the field and win and dominating fashion winner winner chicken dinner. That’s a win every week except for the GT four so far in this series this season.
    • Then try it again lap one third one they wreck in front of me there’s nowhere to go. I’m wrecked out in one.

IMSA

  • Hall – P4 highest so far at tona
  • Kyle – Daytona Race 1 Started P13 in the GTP BMW. Lap 4 P7 self spins into the international Horseshoe and collects me for 7 minutes of repairs. Go back out and just keep pushing the car finishing P6 6 laps down
    • Daytona Race 2 Started P14 in the GTP BMW and just ran a clean consistent race. No incidents all race long and finished on the lead lap P6.
    • Daytona Race 3 Started P8 Moved up quickly to P5 but went to pass a GT3 and he decided to dive bomb me into the bus stop so I locked up the brakes spun the car and fell back to P12 Raced my way up Pitting at Halfway and then just clicked off laps. Wouldn’t you know that same GT3 got the favor paid back. I drove it a little deeper then I normally would into Turn 1 forcing him to veer off track as I went on around him again. I felt vindicated and happy with paying him back without actually doing anything malicious.
  • Brad W – P9 (Daytona) I finished about where I started but what a mess the prototypes were in this race. I’m guessing because it was the first race of the week but they were overdriving corners, wrecking into each other, wrecking into GT3s or a wall. Ended up with 8x just from being in the wrong pace at the wrong time. Really hope this is not a sign of what’s to come in the 24 hour.

League / Hosted Races

IRLP Polar Series

Po Week Eight – Martinsville

  • David – P5

Grass Roots Racing

GTP/GT3 League – Daytona Endurance Race

  • Brad W – P 8 after running in top 5 for about half the race.I did not have the pace of the leader but decided to try a no tire strategy and it would have worked had I not had a self spin after the first pit stop. That caused me to give up all track position and ended up getting collected by a spinner towards the end of the race. Not what I wanted but hey, I have not finished one of these the last three races. I’ll call that a win.
  • David – P lost it off turn 6

Major Series Snowball Derby

  • David – P10, just ran in the back till the last 40 laps
  • Brad – P32 after making the top split. Car was ok and had worked my way into the top 10 in the race. I would get into another car and received the expected EOL for any car causing an accident. However I would also get protested and have to serve a drive through under green as well. This would put me laps down and from then I was caught up in everyone else’s mess. The Race Control was a mess and the session was not set up correctly for limited tires. Voiced my opinion on the Discord but for a series that normally does a great job, this whole event was an absolute mess. Hope it gets better with the next round.

MEC Daytona 8 Hour

  • Will, Brad and William – P22. We started P11 but William would get turned by a GTP in the early laps and drop almost back to the tail end. Will would get in the car and we started the climb back to the front. We had made it back into the top 10 only to get run over getting into T1 that caused significant damage. We did a good job managing the 1xs but collected too many 4xs from other cars. We would use the fast repair before Will got back in the cra to start his final stints. Unfortunately he would loose it getting into the bus stop and have to serve a drive through for exceeding the incident limit. The plan was to serve the dive through and then get damage repaired. As he was exiting pitroad after the penalty he lost power at his house. This had me stuck out of the car for many laps and it was decided to park the car as we would not be able to make up any ground had we continued. Very low attrition even though there was some questionable driving but I attribute that to the 1 fast repair. Sitting 17th out of 54 in Pro-Am Points Sebring is up next and that is a great track for all of us.
  • Tom & David – p7  –  made mistakes early, snapped on me entering the bus stop lap one, was not trying hard and it still snapped.  But we were probably p7 speed anyway.  Not as good in this car, but was kind of fun being the middle class.

Hosted-

  • Ellis – P5 car of tomorrow GEN five at Talladega was in a bunch of carnage but had a respectable finish of P5

NASCAR iRacing Series

Official Series

Formula Vee

  • Doug-P 1 started third and ran consistent times.

BMW M2 cup at circuit de Novara

  • Ellis– P 5.  Started six finish P5 but had 12 incident points yikes.
    • Then started P7 out of 12. Ended up jumping the start cause I didn’t have my clutch mapped right and had to do a drive-through penalty go back to last but end up finishing P1.

B Open

  • John –  Winner winner chicken dinner. P1 Baby!!!!!!!!!!!. First win of the year. Ran the perfect race. Two yellows in the first 15 laps and all green from there. Pitted on lap 46 under green and it was flawless. Came out 15th. By the time the pit cycle was done I was back in P3. First two cars had older tired and could not hold me off. I went into this race with my new mindset that I need to race for a win instead of just driving around the track. Did not hold back on trying to pass anytime I saw a gap. Went for every opening and it worked.
    • John P 18. Well, the fun was short lived. This race not so good. Car seemed really loose compared to last race and had trouble hanging on to it. Banged the wall coming out of turn 4 and got 9 minutes damage. That put me 15 laps down and no way to salvage a good run.

C Open

  • John P6. This was a great Dega race. Started P4 and got up to first right away. Stayed there 20 laps until first caution. Ran in first and second positions until two to go when all heck broke loose. I was running on the inside and the outside line came up like a freight train for the first time the whole race. Lot of banging and got dropped in a gaggle of cars. Big wreck on last lap but I hung on and made it to the end. P6 is not bad in the trucks at Dega.
  • John P8. Started on the pole and led several laps. First of five cautions was lap 23. I took four tires but most took only two. Lost 5 spots and came out 6th. Was running 3rd on the inside on the green white checker and thought I had a shot, but nope, the outside line built a head of steam and we could not hold them off. After two races at Dega its pretty clear the outside line works at the end and I need to find a way to get up there in the final few laps. Lesson learned
    • P22. Started on the pole again. On lap one the truck in P2 was on the outside going in to turn 3. He decided he wanted my spot on tried to switch lanes. Wrecked us. I went in the pits to fix damage since I got a 4X, but had no damage to fix. This put me in P22. Within two laps I got to P12 but there was a wreck in front of me I could not avoid. 14 minutes of damage. Limped around the last 30 laps and finished P22.
    • P14. On the pole again. Pitted under green on lap 27 and spun as soon as I entered the pits. Boneheaded mistake. Came out P18. Made it up to P13 when caution came out for the first time on lap 47. Could not get around anyone because it was three wide. Costly pit mistake ruined it for me.

Ring Meister

  • Mike – P mx 5 cup pole position. Kept the lead for most of the race was battling with the guy in second on the final lap and I overdid it and went off and spun. The car. Ended up finishing P9.
    • Started on pole position and won the race winner winner chicken dinner. This is number five this week in this series.  I was the leader on the white and made a fatal mistake and went off the track and lost the lead, but it all worked out. I was able to draft the guy at the end. It outbreak him in the final corner.
    • Whole position first lap got wrecked out running second when third place basically didn’t give me room and turned me. I helped my break and then the field came through and plowed me.
    • Then we switched to GT four started dead last ended up wrecking out shortly after.
    • Wrecked out again, early in the race on my own going off the track
    • Then got qualified for Paul position, but ended up wrecking out about a lap and a half in the corner and put it in the wall
    • Started P2, but wrecked out on the first lap I suck
    • Started P3 and finally got a decent finish with a P4!!!!
    • Monday night switch cars to the lotus 79 what a beast failed in the first qualifying and wrecked out in the first race attempt
    • Started P 10 finished on the podium P3 got to P3 by the end of lap one and was able to ride from there couldn’t catch the leaders. They were too far out.
    • Then started dead, lasted and top split, wrecked out lap. One turned one when I tried to pass. The guy in front of me went to make the move and then he went to block and just plowed through me and wrecked us both out.
    • Side-by-side for the lead up the hill I thought I could make it work through the fast kink, but I touched the damn curb and launched both of us into the wall. Hard ended up upside down impaled on the guard rail.
    • Start a P2 the leader got away from me because I spun out but eventually he wrecked out and I inherited the lead and was able to gap everybody else and go on the win by 123rd career win
    • Then started second was able to get to the lead and pull a gap about six seconds to win two in a row
    • Then started on pole but over drove one corner and slammed the wall hard DNF
    • Then started at seventh finish P5 definitely faster drivers in this race than me
    • Decided to buy the next week’s car, the super formula light and do some testing and was very dismayed to see that it won’t show me a lap time when I run a test why would that be? Why not show the lap time?
    • Started second me and the leader drove away from everybody else. It was just me and him he was holding me up for sure, but I couldn’t get around. I finally got a run got to was outside the very next corner me trying to keep my lane and I clipped the damn curbs and then bounced into him and took him out. I was able to continue on and win the race winner winner, chicken dinner, but that’s not how I want to win. It felt pretty bad about that.
    •   Changed cars to the super formula light got wrecked out in the first attempt trying to pass a guy. He didn’t even see me and wiped me out.
    • Second attempt inherited the lead, but then wrecked by myself as a leader I was embarrassed
    • Third attempt got pole position during the middle of lap one I hit the dang curbs again and wrecked myself again from the lead
    • Fourth attempt get killed before I even get to the start line. One guy spins out near the front and basically takes out the field like 10 or more cars.
    • Fifth attempt started on all position was side-by-side with a guy from the lead set up real well for one corner, but totally didn’t think about the next one and plowed the wall hard
    • Sixth attempt somebody passing me I leave enough room, but that code takes me out at least 15 inches away
    • Seventh attempt the 2 L rack I inherit the lead after starting third I’m pulling away. I barely touched the curbs and it throws me into the wall seventh DNF in a row.
    • Eighth attempt start from the pole was able to pull away to a three second gap until I went wide one 4 and then it fell back to a one second gap but was able to bring it home and win and finally get a finish with winner winner chicken dinner!!!

Global Mazda MX 5 cup

  • Ellis- P10 at motorsport Arena oscherSleben – started P 10 got up to P5 but got wrecked out when somebody tried to pass me on the inside going into our Sharpe right and there was no way he was gonna make the corner and wiped us both out. Fell back to finish P 10.

IMSA

  • Hall – P
    • Sebring 3 3 2 2 3 29 32 1 6 33 3 3 46 5 2 44 35 37 5
    • Le Mans 1 31 4 5 1 47 8 4 7 28
  • Brad W – P8 Le Mans – Started and finished in the same spot. Not one of my best or favorite tracks. Was only able to get one start and it was ok.
  • William –  P18- As a GT3 driver I don’t really like LeMans, but wanted to do for participation. 2nd split qualified towards the back, made some spots on the first lap. On lap 2 coming out of the 1st chicane a car 6 ahead loses it hitting too much curb. Thought I had it missed but a guy from behind playing Ricky Bobby tried to floor it through and took me out. 6 min of optional repairs. Came out with 2 min left to try to not lose spots but car was still hurt. Lost it as soon as i braked for Indy and that was it. Race over.

Draftmaster

  • Doug-P2 started 15th at Talladega worked with a guy that started 19th ended up, pushing him to the win finished  second by 2 thousands of a second

League / Hosted Races

IRLP Polar Series

Week Seven – Talladega

  • David – P 7
  • Justin – P 5

Grass Roots Racing

GTP/GT3 League – Fuji / Sebring Sprint Race

  • William W –  P5 / P1 – I like fuji but I don’t have crazy pace there. Qualified near the top 5 and just tried to stay. Had nothing for the leaders.
    • Sebring – P1!! Sebring is easily one of my favorite tracks. I love driving there. Qualified P2 with a little trouble getting onto the back straight on the last Q lap. Spent all of the first lap side by side with P1. He got clear and then we were nose to tail. He had a slight gap but it disappeared due to traffic. I took less fuel at the pit and came out in front and was able to hold on from there, but it was a heck of a race. I had to push hard the entire time to keep him behind. But overall fantastic race and result. 2 Races left in the season at two of my other favorite tracks.
  • Brad W – P Wrecked out of both early on. I’m just trying way too hard to keep up with the leaders. Sebring was worse because I had my best qualifying of the season, p5 only to get loose into T1 and slid off track to avoid wrecking the field. Waited for everyone to pass and then was collected in a track blocking accident in T2.
  • David – P6 at sebring p8 i think at fuji

Hosted-

  • Ellis – P hosted Chris McGuire 87 at Talladega wrecked out
    • Cara tomorrow, June 5 at Talladega finish P2
    • GEN five at Talladega was coming hard on the White was gonna win the race and had a run on the guy in the trioval. He came down and blocked even though I was going much faster that hit me into the grass and I lost the race and wrecked it .so so close.
    • Payment sprint car at Dover finish P8 super hard but super fun
    • 87 at Talladega was leading on the white but was a sitting dock and finished P3 great racing though great group of guys
    • Then hostage in five at Talladega, I was leading on the bottom lane, the two to go. They went three wide on me and then the car wouldn’t turn and I wiped everybody out. It was a pretty ugly mess I caused.
    • Pick up cop at Phoenix start at nine out of 23. Finish podium, P3.
    • 87 at Talladega finish P5 after getting flipped over in the first part of the race

Race To The Summit

***SAVE FOR END OF THE SHOW***2025 In The Rear View

Chad McNeese12/7/2025 8:55 AM

I just had a topic idea for the show (and maybe you already do something like this), as we close in on the end of 2025

  • Top 3 or 5 Hits of 2025
  • Top 3 or 5 Misses of 2025
  • Top 3 or 5 Hopes for 2026

Could be a mix of gear, events (race and other like expo) or any other notable memorable items.

Top 3 or 5 Hits of 2025

Mike – Moza Active Pedal, Expos in the USA!, iRacing continues to grow, I continue my streak of winning in NiS every year.

Brad – Sim Gaming Expo-Chicago, Daniel Newman Racing, Max’s impact on sim racing

Donnie – Sim Gaming EXPO at the top accompanied by the iRLP coming together, getting booth, and having a presence at the show.

Chris – Largest Daytona 24 ever, track Art updates, return of the Indy 500, tire wear on road courses, connection Black Flag, Sim Gaming Expo.

William – Gt3 tire model, 2025 Special Events, Sim Gaming Expo

Top 3 or 5 Misses of 2025

Mike – Still no race control updates, oval refresh, gen 4

Brad – Simagic Active Pedal (vaporware?), iRacing UI Update, Tarriffs

Donnie – NiS, dont have to say much about that. iRacing’s tent pole series should not be such a shit show. The Gen4, the car started off awesome, until you spent time racing it. This was a typical iRacing release. Release an unproven product to the community and let them “have at it.” It took iRacing two full seasons to make a significant correction to the car.

Chris – New UI, lousy officiating/protest consistency, new UI: it’s so hard to see things., goodbye Road to Pro.

William – Broken GTP in season 1, timeline of the graphics engine update, even though it debuted in 2024, the rain for the first half of 2025 was out of control.

David – NiS 2025

Top 3 or 5 Hopes for 2026

Mike – Moza adds telemetry effects to the pedals, race control fixes, big wins daytona, darlington hopefully, continue my win every year in nis thing.

Brad – Race Control updates both road and oval, Better stewarding for repeated actions, NiS not to SUCK!

Donnie – Garage Access and a Trophy room, pipe dreams really from me. I am hoping iRacing can utilize the “large” amount of employees they apparently have and really start cracking down on improving race officiating and post race stewarding.

Chris – Better officiating/protest consistency, scuffed tires, cleaner NiS, Digital Super Dirt Week special event at Oswego

William – Race control updates within the year, more new tracks suitable for multiclass racing, Toyota GT3, Ford GT3 Evo, Aston GTP.

David – Race control on oval; pace car waits on leader, multiclass starts.

Free Content During Week 13: Listener Feedback

Jeff Wubker <>Mon, Dec 15, 7:02 PM (15 hours ago)
to iracerslounge

Totally agree with Brad on the driving unpurchased new cars thing during week 13. Entitlement. Key word. I’m 65 and I didn’t grow up in an era of expecting anything for free. The claims he makes that it would make more revenue for iRacing. How the hell does he know? These are cars that are modeled after real life race cars and this is the closest 99% of us will ever come to driving them. The most endorphin stimulating time of new content of a car/track is the first hour or so. I’m a 80% plus content subscriber and I purchase content for the privilege to  experience these things whether I participate in a race or not. Tell me, 30 years ago, had a video game in an arcade or bar been made to this type of reality, could you not see yourself sticking $10 in coins in for this experience? Once people have experienced the initial fun, my opinion is they may just move on without purchasing anything.

I also think sometimes that iRacing being an American built simulator there is some envy by some overseas. Don’t like it, then go play your European Assetto Corsa.

Thanks, Jeff

Ring Meister

  • Mike – P MX 5 cup starting 24th out of 28. Got the P3 by the end of lap one ended up finishing P2. What an awesome race.
    • Then started at seventh and won the race winner winner, chicken dinner I had to race hard against another guy and earned it, but I certainly did. Career win number 118.
    • Tried to back up my win, but ended up with a P3 after starting P2
    • Whole position went off in the grass on my own and finish P3
    • Then pole position. But wreck out actually got ran over from behind on a tight corner couldn’t get turned around and ended up in the back so just quit.
    • Whole position had some fantastic racing between five cars for the lead I was leading when I overdid it and miss my breaking point by about 5 feet wrecked the car and wrecked out. That might’ve been some of the best road racing I’ve ever done on the service.
    • Started from Paul and had to earn it but winner winner chicken dinner. I got the second win of the week.
    • Started from pole again. Wrecked out from 2nd place from behind in the slow hairpin corner. DNF.
    • P one winner winner, chicken dinner, good battle with about five cars eventually, they all wrecked off as I held the lead most of the time and won the race third win of the week career win number 119
    • Started P2, but got wrecked out early on.
    • Then I did it again another win winner winner chicken dinner
    • Started P3, but wrecked out was starting to make mistakes.
    • Started on pole position ended up, wrecking out, trying to retake the lead from a guy. I got to the outside of him, but he didn’t move over to leave Lane and I ended up getting forced into the wall and we both wrecked from first and second then he was upset on the radio telling me I took unnecessary risk, etc. etc..

Global Mazda MX 5 cup

  • Mike– started P1 and finished P6 at Virginia international raceway North course.
    • Then started 10 out of 12 and finished P8 not a great race kinda all over the place

League / Hosted Races

Week Seven – Texas

  • Mike- p wrecked out
  • Doug – P15 started 16th without qualifying was a little intimidated, wanted to start from the rear. Got caught up with a car on lap seven there was an incident coming out of turn two on lap six ended up finishing 15th.

Grass Roots Racing

GTP/GT3 League – Road America Endurance Race

  • William W –  P1!! Qualified 1st and led wire to wire. Was fairly confident going into this race as Road America is one of my favorite tracks, and was putting up very fast times during the testing the week leading up. Got out to about a second lead by the end of the first lap. Got the advantage to about 3 seconds once traffic started and that’s where it stayed. After the second stop just focused on not killing the car or doing something stupid. Up front it was mostly uneventful for a race I won. Anxiety started to creep in towards the end just knowing the win was mine as long as I didn’t sabotage myself. Super happy to take this one. Currently leading the points through 8 races, though it is very tight and next track is fuji. Not bad but definitely not as fast as I am at RA.
  • Brad W – P26 I wrecked during qualifying so I started p19. I was able to drive up to the top 10 before the first pitstop. After making the stop I was running p10 but was taken out by a GTP driver that used me for a brake pedal getting into T5. Took a 6 minute tow, my race was done.

RFK Holiday Showdown

  • Brad – P30 I started P12 and drove into the top 8 only to get collected in an early wreck. I used my one fast repair and managed to work my way back into the top 10 only to get wrecked again. This event has been really fun the last two years but they added splits to it that were not broadcasted. It was a typical NiS race, 4 yellows by ap 25 and the yellow I was taken out on was number 7 on la 44, of a 100 la race. They ended up with 14 yellows…kind of glad I was wrecked out.

Best Value But Not For Me

This video is a review of the Simsonn Plus X Racing pedals, focusing on their value, customizability, and performance, especially for a user who races from a desk setup. The reviewer concludes they offer the best value in the mid-range pedal market.

Here is a summary of the review:

Recommendation: The reviewer highly recommends the Simsonn Plus X pedals for anyone looking in the mid-range pedal setup (07:10 Opens in a new window ). They are notably sturdy for a desk setup due to their weight and the base plate’s construction (08:03 Opens in a new window ). He believes they outperform lower-end load cell pedals and provide performance close to pedals in the $400–$600 range.

Price and First Impressions: The pedals are priced affordably in the mid-range (around $300 with a base plate), which was surprising given their high-quality appearance (00:17 Opens in a new window ). Assembly was easy, comparable to “easy IKEA furniture” (01:28 Opens in a new window ).

Key Selling Points: Adjustability and Customization (02:23 Opens in a new window )

Almost every aspect is adjustable, including the angle and height of the pedals, and different brake dampers and throttle springs are included.

The Simsonn software allows users to tune pedal curves (04:22 Opens in a new window ). This feature can help users with trail braking precision or smoothing their throttle input, acting as a “crutch for your weaknesses” (05:25 Opens in a new window ).

Brake Pedal: The reviewer, who uses a desk setup, softened the brake to use less force, but it still felt “completely precise” and high quality (02:47 Opens in a new window ).

Clutch Pedal: The clutch feels linear, lacking the satisfying “dump feel” that the reviewer prefers in some other pedals (03:09 Opens in a new window ).

Throttle Pedal: The throttle uses a hydraulic system, which is an improvement over a standard spring, though the reviewer noted it lacked the “squishy feeling” of some higher-priced hydraulic pedals (03:41 Opens in a new window ).

Haptic Motors (Drawback): The reviewer was unable to get the optional linear haptic motors to work with the wheel slip setting in iRacing, which was a deal-breaker for his personal comfort level, though he noted other settings (like gear shift or ABS) did work (05:30 Opens in a new window ).

MOZA R21…It’s Complicated

This video provides a detailed review of the MOZA R21 Ultra Direct Drive Wheelbase, a new 21 Nm entry into a saturated sim racing market.

The reviewer discusses the R21 Ultra’s features, comparing its value and performance to other high-end direct drive wheelbases like the Simagic Evo Pro, VRS Direct Force Pro, and Asetek La Prima.

Key Features and Specifications

  • Constant Force: 21 Nm of constant force direct drive [05:57].
  • Motor Technology: Features a “zero-cogging flat wire technology motor” for a smooth driving experience [06:06].
  • Encoder: Uses a 21-bit magnetic encoder, providing over 2 million measurement points per 360-degree rotation, which contributes to smoother force feedback [06:51].
  • Design: Smaller, more compact CNC machined aluminum housing than previous models, with options for Fanatec, side, and front mounting [09:09].
  • Connectivity: Uses the standard NRG/D1 style quick release but lacks USB pass-through for third-party wheels, a key difference from competitors [000:09:47].
  • Safety: The reviewer notes that an emergency stop button is not included and must be purchased separately, despite the unit’s power [10:24].
  • Low Frequency Effects (LF): Supports an additional feedback layer for games like iRacing to generate effects like curb strikes and gear changes, which adds immersion but is not available universally [13:46].

Software and Settings (MOZA Pit House)

The video gives a tour of the MOZA Pit House software, detailing:

  • Basic Settings: Including steering angle, soft limit stiffness, and output torque limit [22:00].
  • Advanced Settings: Filters like Force Feedback Interpolation, Natural Damping, and Natural Friction, which the reviewer was able to run at lower values than previous MOZA bases due to the R21 Ultra’s refined performance [28:09].
  • FFB Equalizer and Curve: Tools to adjust the amplitude of effects at different frequency ranges and modify the linearity of the force feedback response [34:10].

Driving Experience and Conclusion

Overall Value: The reviewer concludes that the R21 Ultra offers good value for its strength, but its lack of USB pass-through for high-end wheels and its awkward positioning in the ecosystem might make other, slightly less powerful but similarly priced competitors a better fit for the majority of sim racers [50:38].

Refinement: The R21 Ultra offers a noticeable improvement in refinement, detail, and smoothness over earlier MOZA bases, requiring less filtering to achieve a good feel [41:47].

Strength vs. Fidelity: The reviewer cautions that while the 21 Nm is powerful, users who prefer running at lower force feedback levels (e.g., under 12 Nm) might find the fidelity of weaker, competing bases (like the 12 Nm R12 or La Prima) to be better, as the R21 Ultra is better suited for those who will actually use the higher end of its dynamic range [46:31].

Simlabs P1X Ultimate Build Guide

We Good Now?

This video provides a quick update on the resolution of early issues with the Simucube 3 force feedback base, followed by a look at the creator’s initial Force Feedback (FFB) settings for iRacing and Le Mans Ultimate (LMU).

🛠️ Simucube 3 Issues and Resolutions

The creator reported four major hardware and software issues with the new Simucube 3 base, all of which have since been resolved:

  • Control Box / EMI Issues: Resolved. The creator can now run his motion systems without an isolator, and the base works fine with no flickering LED or issues when bolted straight to the rig [00:40]. Simucube has a solution for the control box that they will communicate soon.
  • FFB Knocking Issue: Resolved with a firmware update (Tuner version 3.0.3) [01:04].
  • Hardware Disconnects / EMI: This was traced back to a faulty power supply. The original power supply was found to be causing a voltage drop and bad ringing, which sent EMI into the rig. Replacing the power supply fixed all disconnect issues [01:11].
  • Loss of FFB/Damping: The creator has not experienced this issue on firmware 3.0.3, and the Simucube team has a fix coming for other users who may still be seeing it [02:30].

Overall, the creator concludes that all big issues have been resolved and the force feedback quality is excellent [02:58]. He also corrects a previous statement, confirming that LMU does have telemetry force feedback available [03:06].

⚙️ Simucube Settings for iRacing

The video shows the creator’s preliminary settings within the Simucube Tuner software:

GameKey Simucube Tuner SettingsFFB Effects
iRacingIn-Game Strength: 11-12 (for workout)Direct Input Master: ~85% [05:00]
Mechanical Feel: Adjusted based on wheel weight [04:51]Telemetry: ~30% [05:00]

BMW M2 cup at Summit point

  • Ellis – P 8- start a dead last

FIA F4 America

  • Ellis – P6. Start a dead last in the top split and finish P6.  At Willow Springs.

IMSA

  • Hall – P1 highest at spa, 1st and 2nd wrecked right in front of me on last lap
  • Brad W – P4 GT3 Spa. Started p6 and was forced three wide into the chicane at the start. That forced me to make contact with another car that resulted in him spinning. I had a great race contending for a top 5 all race. I had one of the best races shaping up over the last 4 laps with p4. That was until the white flag lap when an LMP2 (1000 less SOF gap to GT3) decided that he needed to get in the middle of us even though he was 10+ seconds behind his closest competitor. I was able to grab p4 when he spun in the chicane coming to the checkers. Finished p28 in division 3 for the season. My iRating was higher when the season started and I never really got it back after losing 300+ in the first few weeks.
  • William –  P4 and P12 – P4 was 2nd split. Pretty fast people in there but I was on pace and had a good run. Kept it clean and brought home a good result. P12 was top split european split with about a 4k GT3 field. Very fast people but felt I held my own with people near my pace. Split was so high that I still gained 34 IR for finishing 12th. But man did I get bullied in the beginning of this race. Some of the GRR guys were watching in discord and they were scared for me. Still don’t think i’m quite to top split, but I’ll take a decent result.

League / Hosted Races

IRLP Polar Series

Week Six – Bristol

  • David – P16 wrecked out early, a guy got tight on exit and left reared me, quickly apologiezed, and he may have even been a little surprised that he even got to my fender cause there were four cars that I was going to let freight train me and was not as hard on the throttle
  • Mike- p6 had a pretty good race led some laps ran top five basically got screwed on some pit strategy at towards the end, but a respectable finish for me P6

Grass Roots Racing

GTP/GT3 League – COTA Sprint Race

  • William W –  P4. Had never raced this track before going here this week. Did practice on Monday and race Tuesday. At no time was I comfortable. I know a lot of people like this track but it is not for me at all. Just happy to get out of here with a decent finish and not see it again for a long time.
  • Brad W – P13 overall and p10 in class. I started p8 and felt very good about this race. I was caught up in the T1 mess that always comes at COTA. I had to basically stop to avoid hitting a spinner. That dropped me down a few spots. I ended up spinning a few laps later while pushing too hard to gain spots back. Finally settled into the top 10 before pits and was happy with it. I gambled with a very tight fuel fill to try and gap those around me. Even though JRT had me needing even less than what I actually took. I was running in p8 coming towards the end when I realized I was .6 gal short. Had to pit as we took the white and that dropped me 5 spots.

Hosted-

  • Ellis – P pick up cup at Phoenix qualified P2 drove all race long and P2 trying to catch the guy. I was only one second back and then some 4000 eye rating guy came driving up through the field went by both of us and won the race so I finished P3
    • Mount Washington, VW beetle up the hill. I put up a respectable lap at least I thought it was but it’s 48 seconds off of Pole. I did a 540 in the pole is a 452.65th fastest in the race to the summit sponsored by race craft
    • Chris McGuire hosted car of tomorrow June 5 at Talladega started P8 and end up winner winner chicken dinner. At one point I was catching the leader and I had a huge maybe 10 or 15 mile an hour faster run than him and he pulled down in front of me by himself off his nose as he tried to block I went on the win the race.
    • Then same car at Daytona wrecked out
    • Then carb cup gin seven at Daytona. P3
    • Then pick up cup at Phoenix started PA finish P4
    • Think qualified at six and finish P6 I was fading at the end
    • Then carb cup gin seven at Daytona wrecked out.
    • Supercars at Michigan finish P6. Some guy was going below the line and trying to blend up and I called him a clown and then he tried to take me out and they ended up booting him out of the race cause he wouldn’t stop.
    • Jen 4 @Daytona hosted wrecked out
    • Pick up cup at Phoenix finish P3
    • 13th week ridiculousness BMW M2 at North Wilkesboro started dead last finish sixth overall P3 in class
    • FIAF4 @Willowsprings started 10th finish P6
    • BMW M2 at Summit point started at 12th finish P8
    • FIA cross car at Winton motors raceway rally P6. Started for the pole position.
    • Pick up cup Daytona wrecked out
    • Winter NIS at Daytona fixed. Green flag for the longest time we got through one and a half green flag shop before the caution start coming out. I got involved in a wreck. Three minutes damage got all of it fixed but wrecked out pretty hard racing near the end for 15th on the White I drove it in there and took the guy out didn’t mean to so finish P 19.

Seven Levels Of Sim Racing

The seven levels of sim racing are:

Experience: This is the most costly and physically demanding tier. When the user slams on the hydraulic brakes, the belt tensioners crush their chest to mimic G-force deceleration, getting as close as possible to a real race car without smelling gasoline (05:01 Opens in a new window ).

Level One: The Gateway (00:35 Opens in a new window )

Equipment: A gear-driven or belt-driven wheel (like a Logitech G29 or Thrustmaster) clamped to a desk.

Experience: The defining characteristic is the rolling office chair, which slides backward when the user hits the brakes (00:59 Opens in a new window ). It uses potentiometer-based pedals that measure distance, not pressure.

Level Two: The Upgrade (01:20 Opens in a new window )

Equipment: A wheelstand is added to lock the office chair in place. The biggest upgrade is the load cell brake, which measures pedal pressure like a real race car (01:33 Opens in a new window ).

Experience: Users often upgrade to an entry-level direct drive wheelbase (3–5 Newton meters of torque), providing a smoother feel for catching slides.

Level Three: The Permanent Rig (02:00 Opens in a new window )

Equipment: A full, rigid rig is built (made of wood or tubular steel) to eliminate frame flex.

Experience: Visually, the user graduates to an ultrawide monitor, allowing them to finally see the corner’s apex without using a ‘look’ button (02:24 Opens in a new window ).

Level Four: The Gold Standard (02:40 Opens in a new window )

Equipment: A durable and infinitely adjustable 80/20 aluminum profile rig is used, along with a fixed-back bucket seat.

Experience: The display is upgraded to triple screens for genuine peripheral vision (03:03 Opens in a new window ). The powerful 10–12 Nm wheelbase makes a 30-minute race physically demanding.

Level Five: Tactile Immersion (03:26 Opens in a new window )

Equipment: The focus shifts to an ecosystem of details, including a collection of swappable steering wheels (e.g., formula style, deep dish).

Experience: The secret sauce is tactile feedback via base shakers (butt kickers) under the seat, allowing the user to feel curbs and tire lock-up through vibration in their spine (03:49 Opens in a new window ).

Level Six: Virtual Reality (04:05 Opens in a new window )

Equipment: The user switches from screens to Virtual Reality (VR) to be placed inside the car. Wind simulators are added to blow air that speeds up with acceleration.

Experience: The wheelbase torque increases to 20 Nm or more, where crashing without letting go of the wheel could result in a sprained wrist (04:31 Opens in a new window ).

Level Seven: The Endgame (04:47 Opens in a new window )

Equipment: The rig features full motion simulation (heave, pitch, and roll) and active belt tensioners.

What Separates Pro Sim Racers?

The video “What Seperates You From Pro Sim Racers?” by Markus Soholm explains that the difference between professional and amateur sim racers is not raw pace or natural talent, but a combination of dedication, mindset, and consistency.

Here is a summary of the video’s main points:

The Real Difference

The Path to Improvement

The Ultimate Goal

Enjoy the Journey: The most important takeaway is to enjoy the process of becoming a better driver, including the mistakes and the learning 09:59 Opens in a new window . Chasing only status and good results will eventually lead to burnout 10:22 Opens in a new window . The real meaning is in becoming better not just as a sim racer, but as a person 10:35 Opens in a new window .

Obscure But Useful Tips

This video, “15 OBSCURE iRacing tips that are actually useful!” by DJ Yee-J, provides a comprehensive list of specific and often lesser-known tips to improve performance in iRacing, focusing primarily on oval racing.

The tips cover car physics, UI navigation, track-specific line adjustments, and pit road strategy:

Car Physics and Track Line Secrets

  • Paint and Grip
    • On tracks where the painted line is on the banking (not the apron), the paint has more grip than the asphalt in iRacing 00:22, allowing drivers to “hook that paint” for better corner speed (e.g., Charlotte).
  • Tire Heat and Bumps
    • Bouncing the tires adds significant heat, arguably more than sliding them 02:02. This means going over track bumps increases tire temperature, which is a factor to either use to your advantage or avoid to save tire wear.
  • Progressive Banking
    • At tracks with progressive banking (like Homestead), splitting the lanes (two wheels on one lane, two on the other) can cause the car to get loose 03:29. This can be intentionally used to help a car that is otherwise pushing too tight.
  • Brake Bias Adjustment
    • You can create a 6% range in your in-car brake bias by starting at a lower garage setting and then increasing it in the car 08:09.
    • You can go below or above the minimum/maximum garage brake bias settings for an extra 3% range by using the in-car adjuster 08:53.
  • Late Model Apron Clips
    • Late Model Stock Cars can use well-timed apron clips to gain speed and rotation at high-banked tracks, which allows for more aggressive throttle application 09:14.

Track-Specific Advanced Lines

  • Las Vegas: To avoid the worst bumps in Turns 1 and 2, you must either stick the line early on the bottom or go 3/4 to a full lane off the bottom 10:00.
  • Darlington: The wall swings away from you on corner entry, which is the reverse of Safer Barrier tracks. To use all the real estate, you must turn right as the wall juts away and then turn back left 10:46.
  • New Hampshire: Due to the low banking, nearly every car uses the apron 11:27. Treat the track as being as wide as the apron allows for optimal lines.
  • North Wilkesboro (New Rescan): The small concrete strip on the apron in Turn 1 surprisingly provides more grip than the asphalt 12:39.

UI and Pit Road Tips

Timing Loops: Since iRacing uses timing loops, you can briefly exceed the pit speed limit and then slow down to average the speed back out over the section 07:30.

Practice Groups: You can change your practice group via the ‘entries’ tab to be alone on the track for uninterrupted qualifying laps 01:17.

Pit Speed Limit: You can usually run about 1 mph over the posted pit speed limit without getting a penalty 07:03.

NASCAR iRacing Series

Official Series

Sunday Fixed-Winter NiS – Phoenix

  • Mike- Pdnf car was super super tight. I qualified 15th out of 26 and split two Nim Cross is in here and I invited him to our league and on lap 30. The guy in front of me just spun out all by himself and somehow someway I couldn’t miss him and took the right front off the car

Global Endurace

  • Mike, David, Greg, Tom p5-  Was as high as 2nd,  to big 12 min wrecks, plus only 5 cars still remaining lead us to stop with about 8 hours to go.

Gen 4

  • Ellis – P  at Chicago land. Top split 19 cars there were two splits.  Qualified fourth. Ended up leading some laps, but made a bad pit. Call on tires and fuel ended up having a pit under green when others didn’t eventually caught a lucky caution. Got a lucky dog back to the lead lap and made my seat way up to 12 out of 19 to finish P12.

B Open

  • John –  P5 This was a good race on old Atlanta. Two cautions in the first 10 laps. Green rest of the way. I stayed out on first set of tires for 50 laps. A bit of a gamble that paid off. Guys that pitted early lost a lot spots on the track they never got back. My tires at the end were good enough to pick up two spots in the last 10 laps. First B open in a while and felt good to finally get a top 5 and NOT GET WRECKED. But, the fun was short lived because I got a P26 at Auto Club my next race. Got taken out on lap 1 in turn 4. Too much damage – I was done.

Ring Meister

  • Mike – P street stock. DNF ran into the guy in front of me when he slowed down more than I expected to in a king corner that caused me to spit off my car was against the wall so I held the brake and was waiting for the field to pass before trying to reverse but sure enough they wrecked in the same king and came sliding sideways and destroyed me some 30 seconds later
    • Started Paul position went off a little bit but that was enough to get past and I could never catch the guy again and finished P2
    • Qualified fifth. Ended up spinning in a heavy breaking zone and a few cars hit me and I lost all steering DNF.
    • Started on Paul position quickly lost the lead but then was in second holding up third and fourth we actually went three wide at one point one guy wrecked off, threatened to protest me, but it was just a racing incident. On the final lap, the leader lost connection and then me and another guy were fighting for the win, but I couldn’t catch him P2.
    • Qualified on pole position and he ended up finishing second.
    • Then top split qualified fourth fell to six got back to fourth made a mistake and went off. Had to turn around backwards ended up finishing P 13.
    • Pole. Lost to lead pretty quick but then on the real fast left-hand kink turn I got to the guys inside and I predicted that that he would go off if I got to his inside sure enough that’s what happened. He ended up in the grass. I got the lead a few corners later, though I was out of control and shoved it in the wall, headfirst and wrecked from the lead DNF.

IMSA

  • Hall – P2 high at tona,  0-2 for finishing first lap at Spa
  • Brad W – P4 (GT3-Daytona) Started in p8 and was up to p3 by T6. GT3 leader started too soon so we ran up on the Prototypes in T1. Needless to say it was all about avoiding the spinning cars. I did not have the pace of the top 2 but was just a bit quicker than p4. Managed to stay in p3 for about 80% of the only to get punted by p4 getting into the Lemans Chicane. This dropped me to p6 and over the final laps i was able to get bay to p4 and on the bumper of p3(the guy who punted me). I made a few attempts to get by but he was in the Porsche so while I could get to him he was too strong for me to complete the pass. I also did not want to do to him what he did to me.
    • P1 GT3(Nurburgring) Started p2 but slipped to p3 at start. The three of us were much quicker than the rest of the field so I knew it would come down to us. P1 went wide through the stadium section and fell to p3 about 15 minutes in. Traffic caught us and p1 was knocked off course getting into the last chicane by a GTP. That gave me the lead before pit stops. Was able to maintain and stretch it to 4 seconds over the remaining time in the race. A little redemption from earlier in the week where I was wrecked out of p1 by a spinning GTP car.
  • William –  P9 and P6 – Nurb GP Both top split, nothing remarkable about either race. Didn’t have the pace here that I found later in the week but unfortunately didn’t get time to run another one. Sitting P4 in Division 3 IMSA with one week to go. Need a really strong week at Spa, but thankfully as we will find out I have found a ton of pace there.

Draftmaster

  • Mike- 87 at Daytona qualified ninth out of 19 top split. Drove up to fourth but then faded back to finishP7.

League / Hosted Races

IRLP Polar Series

Week Five – Darlington

  • David – P 12,   got loose right in front of someone, they couldn’t avoid, had aboutg 1min 40 of damage
  • Justin – P wrecked ?
  • Brad – P wrecked out. I just don’t like this car at all.
  • John – P parked. Wrecked on lap 52. Damage was repairable, but I figured no need to go on.

Grass Roots Racing

GTP/GT3 League – Spa Endurance Race

  • William W –  P2 – p3 overall – 15% chance of rain during session so thought I was clear but didn’t even think about the possibility of loading to a wet track. Struggled in the beginning and really bad in quali. Started well back in the field and spun myself twice getting too far off line on the wet trying to make things happen. Stayed on wet tires about 2 laps too long. But boy or boy once I put the drys on I was fastest on track by literal seconds. It felt so good and it was really fun searching fo the best dry line. Mad at myself for losing about 20 seconds on the spin because this was an easy win if not. But either was it was a lot of fun. Both my races this week were pretty fantastic.
  • Brad W – P4 in class and P5 overall. What a fun race! The track started 50% wet and was really perfect for the start. Worked through avoiding the early spinners and managed to settle into a decent rhythm and made progress toward the front. The track was perfect for dry tires at the first stop and was a blast to keep pushing and finding grip. I was surprised that we would need a second stop just for fuel. Pitted and on my out lap I just flat out messed up going into Pouhon. Forgot to downshift and I spun the car but ended up in more of a death slide. I was trying to get it straight and managed to re-enter the track in a very dangerous way that almost killed David. Definitely a code brown! Had this been a dry race I would have had no chance at a top 5, just did not have the pace.
  • David – P8, don’t start with dry tires in the rain, but gained spots on attrition cause I did keep it on the track

Elbows Out Racing League (LMP2 and GT3 Wednesday Nights)

  • William- P4 – Nurb GP- completely botched qualifying and didn’t set a time. Started in the back and immediately started the push for the front. Was able to miss a lap 1 wreck in stadium and pick off a few more on pace. Entered th pits in 5th and lost the position to 6th in cold tires. Was able to get back to 5th on pace and 4th didn’t put enough fuel. Held off a hard charging guy who is much quicker than me fo the last few laps for a strong finish.

Hosted-

  • Ellis – P 87 that Daytona P2 I was gonna win it, but the guy blocked
    • Supercar at outlon Park P4
    • Carb cup at Daytona. Qualified P2 out of 24. lead most relapse, including the last one, but the guy who was pushing me, shot me up perfectly and got around me on the last lap and won the race P2.
    • Pick up cup at Phoenix got wrecked out running fifth
    • Then pick up cup wrecked out again.
    • And finally finish P4.
    • Then pole position and led every lap and got a 6 point5 second gap on the field in won the race winner winner chicken dinner first win with the new gloves a new sim socks
    • Trying to go back to back I get the Paul position again this time I’m gapping the field. I have about a two second gap and I’m lapping traffic and as I lap the car as I go by him, he turns right right into me as I’m going by him, ended up sending in a protest.
    • Then pull position again took off leading, but some alien with a 6000 eye rating came from the back and caught me in overtake me and won the race and I finished P2 best of the rest Title idea
    • Then started P2 and finish P2. The winner was about a 10th or two faster than me.

The Complete Guide To Direct Drive Bases

This video from the Boosted Media channel is a comprehensive 2026 buyer’s guide for direct drive sim racing wheelbases, aiming to demystify the technology and buzzwords like “full force” and “telemetry-based force feedback” [00:17].

The presenter, Will, breaks down the key aspects for making an informed decision:

1. Force Feedback Strength and Dynamic Range

  • How much strength is needed? The primary goal is enough dynamic range to communicate what the car is doing without clipping or requiring explosive muscle input [04:28].
  • The Sweet Spot: For most adults, the ideal constant force falls between 10 to 14 Newton meters (Nm) [04:46]. While weaker wheelbases (5-9 Nm) are fine for beginners, the 10-14 Nm range is considered the point where most users won’t feel compelled to upgrade for strength [05:08].
  • Safety: Wheelbases are serious equipment. Anything over 5 Nm is not recommended for children under 12, and users should be mindful of the potential for injury [05:26]. The presenter notes that 15-16 Nm at peak is generally more than enough for competitive driving [07:25].
  • Clipping: This occurs when the required force feedback signal exceeds the motor’s maximum torque, causing the force feedback to “flatline” and lose fidelity [10:39]. Running into clipping during driving is bad because it can make the car feel disconnected or like it’s understeering [11:00].

2. Software, Firmware, and Direct Input

  • Direct Input (DI): This is the 30-year-old Microsoft technology (API) that historically handles force feedback [12:29]. Most modern titles use DI’s constant force effect, updating up to a thousand times per second [18:27].
  • The Role of Filters and Algorithms: Sim racers often aim for “minimal filters,” but the presenter stresses that a lot of signal processing and filtering are always happening behind the scenes (firmware/software) to counteract issues like wheel oscillations and make the wheel feel realistic [13:55].
  • Consistency: A quality wheelbase produces smooth and accurate force feedback without requiring excessive filtering that numbs the driving feel [17:11]. Updates to firmware/software can fundamentally change how a wheelbase feels [14:43].

3. Next-Gen Force Feedback Technologies

Manufacturers are developing proprietary APIs to overcome the limitations of Direct Input, leading to new buzzwords:

  • API-Level Telemetry-Based Effects (e.g., Logitech TrueForce, Fanatec Full Force): This adds an extra layer of high-frequency effects (like engine vibration and road texture) on top of the core DI force feedback [22:41]. The major drawback is that the game must integrate the specific API for these effects to work, leading to potential inconsistency between racing titles [20:49].
  • Low-Frequency Effects (LFE): This works similarly to True Force or Full Force but interfaces with the wheelbase as an audio device [24:30]. It allows for effects based on the game’s physics (e.g., laser-scanned track texture) or canned effects (pre-set vibrations triggered by events like a gear change) [25:01].
  • Telemetry-Based Force Feedback: Some brands are using the game’s telemetry data (output via UDP/shared memory) to generate or enhance effects [28:34]. The disadvantage is a slight latency (15-30 milliseconds), which may be noticeable to some drivers [29:25].

4. Technical Hardware Considerations

  • Slew Rate: This is the maximum rate at which the motor can respond to a large, sudden change in force [35:17]. A higher slew rate means a more lively, reactive wheel with sharper detail, but too high can make the wheel feel unrealistically snappy [36:08].
  • Rotating Mass: Less mass for the motor to deal with results in sharper, more responsive force feedback [37:40]. Powerful motors tend to be larger and have more rotating mass, so running them at a low force setting (e.g., 5-10 Nm) can make them feel sluggish because they’re fighting their own inertia [39:36].
  • Encoder Resolution: The encoder measures the wheel’s physical position throughout its rotation and is essential for all internal processing (interpolation, filtering) [40:40]. While higher resolution (e.g., 24-bit vs. 16-bit) doesn’t significantly impact simple steering input, it makes a noticeable difference in the smoothness and quality of force feedback processing [42:12].
  • Cogging and Torque Ripple: This is the sensation of slight “notches” or weak/hard spots when rotating the wheel, caused by the motor’s internal magnets and coils [43:38]. This can be mitigated through expensive hardware (more poles/smaller magnets) or clever software/firmware calibration [44:58].

The speaker concludes by noting that ultimately, the most important factors are the overall ecosystem (wheels, peripherals, compatibility) and software usability [48:12].

Simfire DDU Mount: Mini Review

https://www.simfire.co.uk/products/universal-removeable-sim-racing-dashboard-ddu-mount

MOZA mBooster Vs Simucube Active Pedal

Here is a summary of the comparison:

Simucube Active Pedal Pro (Pros & Cons)

  • Mounting: Very easy and universal, fitting on “every single rig” due to standardized mounting lines [00:46].
  • Feel: The reviewer describes the feel as clear and present [01:30], with way more dynamics and customization in the settings [03:07]. It allows the user to feel the G-force and the car’s engine [03:55].
  • Setup/Software: The setup was “super easy,” and profiles were readily available [04:08]. The software integrates well with other Simucube products (like the Simicube 2 Pro) [05:19].
  • Sound: It is quiet [02:19].
  • Price: Around $2,000 [01:36].

Moza M Booster (Pros & Cons)

  • Mounting: Not universal; it requires a “very special bolt pattern,” which the reviewer considered a dealbreaker [00:34].
  • Feel: The reviewer noted a “strange subtle feeling” they didn’t like [00:19]. The feedback is described as muffled (every brake feel, every traction control) [01:21] and feels way stiffer than the Simucube [03:36].
  • Setup/Software: The reviewer had to “tweak the settings around quite a bit” and found the software was not nearly as in-depth as the Simucube’s [01:02]. The reviewer also missed having community profiles [05:33].
  • Sound: The pedal is described as “extremely loud,” making a “hissing noise” upon plugging it in [02:02]. The noise level is estimated to be around 40 to 60 dB [06:07].
  • Price: Around $800–$900 with the mount [01:40].

Conclusion

The reviewer rates the Simucube as a 9/10 and the Moza as a 5.5 to 6/10 [06:48]. While Moza’s first-generation product is “impressive,” the reviewer believes it is not yet a Simucube rival [04:32]. The ultimate recommendation is to save up for the Simucube pedal if possible, but if a user only has $800, the Moza is still an acceptable option [07:05].

Motion: How Much Do You Need?

This video provides an in-depth guide on the cost and necessity of motion systems in sim racing, breaking down what you can expect at different budget levels based on degrees of freedom (DOF).

Understanding Degrees of Freedom (DOF)

The video begins by explaining the six physical movements, or degrees of freedom, that a motion rig can mimic [01:37]:

DOFDescriptionReal-World Simulation
PitchTilting forward or backBraking or acceleration [01:55]
RollTilting left to rightCornering lean [02:01]
HeaveUp and down motion (Vertical)Going over crests or dips [02:08]
YawRotation around a vertical axis (Twisting)Car slipping sideways (oversteer/understeer) [02:15]
SurgeForward or backward motion on the platformBody pushed back under acceleration or forward during braking [02:23]
SwayLateral shift (Side-to-side)Car sliding or drifting [02:30]

Cost Tiers of Motion Systems

1. Haptic Feedback (The Entry Point)

  • Cost: A few hundred to a couple of thousand dollars [04:00].
  • Concept: A more accessible option that provides physical feedback (e.g., belt tensioners, vibrating seat inserts, butt-kickers) without full rig movement [03:15].
  • Recommendation: This is recommended as the obvious first step before moving into full motion, as it delivers good texture and feedback for the money [03:53].

2. 2 DOF (Budget Entry-Level Motion)

  • Cost: Starts as low as $1,500 (e.g., DOF Reality 2-axis Mover) [04:49].
  • System Type: Usually comes in the form of seat movers.
  • Features: Provides Pitch and Roll (tilting/lean) [04:12].
  • Limitations: Lacks Heave, Yaw, Surge, and Sway.
  • Recommendation: The reviewer suggests starting with a good haptic setup instead, and then skipping straight to 3 DOF for a true step-change in realism [04:59].

3. 3 DOF (The Sweet Spot)

  • Cost: $4,000 to $10,000 [10:30].
  • Features: Provides Pitch, Roll, and Heave [05:55]. The addition of heave (up and down motion) is considered a “true step change in realism and immersion” [05:10].
  • Key Specs to Compare: When shopping in this category, you must compare:
    • Stroke (Motion Travel): How far the actuator moves (more is better for rally/dirt) [06:33].
    • Speed (Velocity): Aim for a minimum of 200 mm/second to avoid lag [06:57].
    • Payload: Maximum weight the system can handle (include 10-15% extra to spare) [07:14].
    • Actuators: A full 3 DOF system uses four actuators (one at each corner), but you can start with three to save money [07:31].
  • Reviewer’s Recommendation: 3 DOF is the best blend of performance, feel, and cost for a serious sim racer not building a commercial studio [10:24].

4. 5 DOF (Adding Traction Loss)

  • Cost: As low as $15,000 when adding a traction loss platform to a 3 DOF setup [14:14].
  • Features: Adds Yaw, Surge, and/or Sway to the 3 DOF movements [13:42].
  • Benefits: You begin to feel the car’s mass sliding sideways, the body being pushed forward/rearward, and, most importantly, traction loss cues that help you correct slides [14:03].

5. 6 DOF (The High End)

  • Cost: Under $20,000 for a good system [16:00].
  • Features: Provides all six degrees of freedom (Pitch, Roll, Heave, Yaw, Surge, and Sway) [15:43].
  • Experience: Provides the most information and sensory input to the driver, which the reviewer and a pro driver believe can make you faster by helping you feel what the car is doing [21:00].

6. Turnkey Commercial Grade

  • Cost: Tens of thousands to hundreds of thousands of dollars [23:33].
  • Concept: Fully built, ready-to-use systems that set the ceiling for motion simulation, used primarily by sim centers or for training professional drivers [24:03].

Final Recommendation

The reviewer would build a system around 3 DOF with a maximum budget of $10,000, choosing quality actuators with at least 100 mm of stroke, a velocity of over 250 mm/s, and low latency (under 20 ms) [24:20]. This allows for easy upgrading to a 6 DOF system later by simply adding a traction loss platform underneath [24:42].

NASCAR iRacing Series

Official Series

Sunday Fixed- Winter NiS – Daytona

  • Mike- P wrecked out had a good run going was running top five let some laps but at one point I got wrecked and that was it about halfway through

B Open

  • Kris R – DNF  Computer crashed on lap 5 and was unable to continue racing because of the damage I sustained.

IMSA

  • Hall – P 2 at Mosport  p8 at daytona
  • Brad W – P6 (Mosport) Top split. After getting killed in a previous race I was able to have a nice finish over the weekend. Started p11 and was able to keep up with the top 10 early on. Had some battles and was up to p8 before pit stops. Made the choice to run long and was able to jump both 6th and 7th in the pits. Kept it clean to the finish. I’ll take it!
  • William –  P4 – Mosport – Top split of 2 and this was a fast split. And the GTD wasn’t the highest IR for once! Proto’s were both 4.5k with GTD 3.2. Started 5th or 6th and kept the car clean. Good racing in the GTD and this is a track I feel like I have pace at. It was so nice having prototypes that weren’t brainless. Was faster than P3 and was able to chase him down but every time I’d get to his bumper traffic would separate us. Protos didn’t do anything wrong, this is just a tough track for traffic. Only issue I had with a proto was on the last lap I was trying to set up a pass on P3 in the last 3 turns when P3 GTP inserted himself between us with no one within 10 seconds of us. Don’t think I had the pass anyway, but still annoying.

Suzuka 1000 –  Ran with Will Weaver and Brad in the Mustang. Back when this was at Fuji I lamented I wish it was back at Suzuka, and now I want to go back to Fuji. Struggled a little bit with pace, finally got it down but still felt like I was pushing the fronts all day. I did absolutely horrible in qualifying and put us back in 40th. Got damage before the start line when a guy ignored a yellow flag in front of us and cleared himself off my nose, but thankfully that’s all the damage we got all day. Everyone was solid and we brought it home P11, which isn’t bad for where I put us to start.

League / Hosted Races

IRLP Polar Series

Week Two- Las Vegas

  • David – P 12, couldn’t take care of the tire and keep up
  • Justin – P 10
  • Chris – P22
  • John – P14
  • Mike- p18. Round 6 to 10th pretty much most of the night except for the last run. I’m not sure what went wrong at this faded hard. I wasn’t doing anything wrong but I was 210 slower than everybody.
  • Kris – P21.   Tough run last night. Really couldn’t figure out the car and track combination. I was able to keep up on the first run but burned my right front off (10%) and had to pit well before anybody else. That put me a lap down. The next run I came out and was able to save the right tire but ran such a slower pace I was down another two laps. I got tapped in the rear and spun coming out of turn two on 110 or so and parked it.

Grass Roots Racing

GTP/GT3 League – Nurburgring Sprint Race

  • William W –  P5. I was seconds off pace all week in practice so I wasn’t expecting a result here, but somehow put it on pole. Was not prepared and made the GTD go green in an awkward spot. Didn’t keep the lead past lap 1, P3 was pushing on me about 6 laps in when I looped it coming out of the stadium. No damage, but dropped me to 5th where I would stay for the rest of the race. I would have taken that before the race, but little disappointed after that qualifying effort. Sitting 4th in the championship halfway through the season. Off for Thanksgiving next week.
  • Brad W – P13. It was over before it ever started. I had my best qualifying of the season starting p8. I planned to take it easy, not make too many mistakes and shoot for a top 5. However, I never made it to the starting line. P6 spun the tires on the start, I had him missed but he did not hold his brake and rolled back into me. From then on the track was blocked and I continued to get hit. Was dead last leaving the pits in about p29 and was able to drive back to p19 overall.
  • David – P5, best finish so far.  Had mid pack speed and actually qualified up in 7th.  Was in fourt but a gt3 had a horrific rejoin and i had to stop in the grass to avoid, lost about 12 seconds.  Almost lost 5th as a result too.

Elbows Out Racing League (LMP2 and GT3 Wednesday Nights)

  • William- P5 at Daytona – 90 minute endurance race that featured a lot of rain. The top end of GTD pro here is pretty fast so I was a little worried going into the race it being Daytona, but was able to qualify 4th. Got 3rd going into turn 1 and the top 4 rode in line for about 10 laps. Rain came about 25 min in and top 4 pit for wets. But this meant that we couldn’t make it on only one more stop. I struggled in the rain at the beginning a little bit, and there were 5 or 6 laps where it was probably red flag conditions where the entire track looked like a mirror. I was running 6th when I lost it in the kink and hit the inside wall. Damaged the front but it still drove okay. Actually kept position but decided to go ahead and pit since I was in the window and got the damage fixed. Came out in 13th, but was able to cycle back to 5th by the end when others pit. Was actually enjoyable once the rain backed off from pure monsoon.

High Line league.

  • Mike- started 44th got wrecked kind of in the first big wreck, but they didn’t throw a caution tried to limp it back around, but ended up floating up into the groove. I ended up towing the car going several laps down then later I ran it out of gas and it was I was about to pit. They threw the yellow, but the pit was closed when I went in and I missed my pit stall and ran it out of gas and when I towed, it was five minutes so that was it I was done.

Major Series Japanese Grand Prix

  • David – P7.   I slipped up a little on lap one and drove a while with damage, but fixed it half way through with QR and at the same time leap frogged two guys.  The rest were faster damage or not i think.

Hosted-

  • Ellis – P carb cup at Atlanta started second and ended up winning the race winner winner chicken dinner. Look at may be carb cup only but every win is a win.!! so stoked
    • Chris McGuire hosted Cara tomorrow at Talladega qualified in the back worked my way forward and ended up in the top five near the end and finish. P3 ran my tires off too soon didn’t save them enough for the end.
    • Daytona Road with the IL 15 the F3 car and the radical SR8. Qualified fifth finish P4. My left hand is sore.

Why Sim Racing Needs To Ditch USB

Force Feedback: I Was Wrong

The YouTube video, titled “Force Feedback Myth we Need to Talk About” by the channel Race Beyond Matter, explores the common belief that force feedback filters (like inertia, damper, and friction) in direct drive wheels negatively impact performance.

The host argues that this is a myth, demonstrating that using higher filter settings can actually lead to better control and a more relaxed driving experience. The test was conducted using an 8Nm direct drive base and the difficult-to-control Ferrari 599 in iRacing.

Here is a summary of the host’s findings and conclusions:

1. Test with Low Filter Settings (The Conventional Approach)

Starting with the generally accepted low-filter settings for maximum responsiveness, the host observed several issues:

  • Oscillation: The steering wheel had “tons of oscillation” when stationary [02:16].
  • Jerky Inputs: The feedback felt “spiky,” making the car twitchy, and the necessary inputs were “quite jerky” [02:56], often causing the car to snap [05:47].
  • Overshooting: The force feedback would overshoot its corrections, requiring the driver to be highly concentrated to fight the reaction of the wheel [07:12].

2. Test with High Mechanical Inertia

The host then made a radical change by setting the Mechanical Inertia to 100% (while setting friction and damper to zero) to test the theory that filters make the FFB sluggish.

The result was a significant improvement in control:

  • No Oscillation: There was “no oscillation at all” [09:09].
  • Precise Corrections: The steering wheel made the necessary corrections without overshooting, making it “so much easier to drive” [10:15].
  • Relaxed Driving: The driver was able to be “super light on my hands” and “relaxed,” simply following the information from the wheel [11:09].
  • Speed: The host notes the speed of the feedback was “absolutely enough,” even at maximum filtering [18:20].

Conclusion: Benefits of Using Filters

The host concludes that he was “so wrong for years to talk about against filters” [19:36] and encourages viewers to test the extreme settings for themselves. The key benefits found by using higher filter values are:

  1. No Oscillations: Allows the driver to be super relaxed and not have to fight the wheel [18:36].
  2. Smooth, Precise Corrections: The corrections are smooth, not jerky, and allow for better car control [18:50].
  3. Retention of Detail: The driver still felt “everything” and did not lose any of the road texture or information [19:05].

The host emphasizes that the performance of the correction is based purely on the force feedback, not the driver’s reaction speed [18:20]. He suggests that every direct drive base is capable of achieving this level of control.

NASCAR iRacing Series

Official Series

A Open

  • Brad W – P11 (Michigan) top split. Had a stacked house in this one with Coke Series driver Graham Bowlin. Felt like I ran a good clean race but man it is hard to pass here in this car. So easy to start a pass but hard to complete it off the corner. We had a GWC and I was able to grab a spot or two coming to the line. Glad to be back turning left only again.

Ring Meister

  • Mike – P Audi GTO 90 Saturday night tried twice and wrecked out twice.

IMSA

  • Hall – P1 at Monza,  P6 at MoSport
  • Brad W – P7. Was able to put an entire race together and get a decent finish. Again another race with a HUGE gap in SOF between classes. This makes things very difficult at certain tracks and this is one of them.
  • William –  P7. Monza. Probably my only IMSA this week as I am not a big fan of this track. Quali slow started P9. Gained some spots from spins, 2 overtakes, and in pits. Was fighting for 3rd with a guy who turned out to be a dirty racer. He went off slightly in Lesmo and I got around him. He tries to overtake me next lap in turn one and pushes me straight off the track. I get past him again as he goes off after ascari. Next lap going into ascari he tries to overtake and again pushes me off the track. Get around him again and second to last lap he sends it in turn 1 and finally takes me out. Thankfully little damage but filtered to 7th. Just frustrating that iRacing will do little about it. Oh, and get 1.1k sof LMP2s out of these splits please.

League / Hosted Races

IRLP Winter Series

Week Two- Rockingham

  • David – P 18, caught in the first two wrecks, 13 minutes of damage,  ran the rest of the race 30 laps down just tip toing when i got to guys and passing when I could without extreme pressure.
  • Justin – P taken out
  • Brad – P8 Started p7 but decided to lay back some to try and save tires. Things were good till the second half of the race when after pitting for tires under green I spun off of turn 4. That  put me two laps down and from then on I tried to get what I could. Really challenging track and car combo. The FFB in this car is really odd and to be honest, not very enjoyable to drive.
  • Greg -P5
  • Mike- p6. – had a good run going ended up, spinning by myself down to the inside, losing my track position ran as high as P2, but finish p6 will take it
  • Kris – P 14. Got caught up in an early wreck and had 3 min damage.  Got it fixed over a few cautions but never had the pace and got lapped. Stayed out of trouble the rest of the race and just tried to finish clean.

Grass Roots Racing

GTP/GT3 League – CTMP Sprint Race

  • William W –  P3 qualified a little back from where I thought my pace was in P4. I had absolutely nothing for the top 2. Normally I feel like I can compete on most tracks but they knew something here that I didn’t. Rode in P4 until the pit stop. Had a little pressure from behind for a bit until he spun. Traffic wasn’t bad because gtp did anything wrong, but it’s just challenging overall at this track. Dunno what happened to P3 but I came out in 3rd about 8 seconds behind the top two and just rode it out until the end.
  • Brad W – P7. Thought my qual speed would be good but started mid-pack. A really challenging track to overtake unless you are much faster than the car ahead of you. Managed to get up to about p8 or so before pitstops and would screw up and get a speeding penalty leaving the box. Self-inflicted wounds are the worst.
  • David – P10

Elbows Out Racing League (LMP2 and GT3 Wednesday Nights)

  • William- P awful- Raced at Red Bull ring. Don’t know why they deviated from the official schedule but if I didn’t already have a deep hatred for Algarve and Portimou then this would by far be my least favorite track. Die in a fire. Already annoyed because I was slightly off pace to people who I know I’m normally as fast as, I got taken out in turn 3 on lap 1. Just spun, no damage, but I left the guy plenty of room on the inside and he just didn’t turn. 3 weeks in a row in this league, 2 definitely the other persons fault, is just getting a little old. I had recovered to about 7th after pit stops when I came up on lapped traffic that would just not get out of the way. Brought the guy behind me up from a 5 second gap and I pulled a will weaver and spun myself in frustration in turn 3. Fast forward to end of the race last lap I’m nursing 13 inc when a guy just doesn’t brake in turn 3 and gets me a drive through on the last lap that I can’t serve. Awful night.

Hosted-

  • Ellis – Chris McGuire supercar at Michigan. Finish P6 I was in the mix in the top three most of the night with Tony Stewart and another guy pretty cool.
    • Car of tomorrow June 5 at Talladega started dead last got to 11th by the end of lap one I miss the huge wreck later at the competition caution I was up to fifth ran top five for the rest of the event was third on the final lap, but got dumped in a big wreck
    • Then supercars at Michigan started 16th got up to the lead traded the lead back-and-forth for 10 laps ended up winning the race winner winner chicken dinner.
    • Then Indy cars at Iowa got wrecked out, but with a caution was able to recover to finish P10
    • Carburetor cup at Atlanta qualified P7 out of 19. Got to the lead but then near the end I was in second and trying to get a run on the guy and I eventually did on the white got to the outside and third place decided to line up with the guy on the bottom and so I got hung out P2. I called out over the radio you pushed the wrong guy.
    • Then I ran pick up cup at Phoenix qualified fifth got the third and the first two corners and the next set of corners I got ran over from behind rallied back to finish P6

Blame on Content Creators The video concludes by placing some blame on YouTubers and influencers (including himself) for creating a “religious hyperfixation” on minor differences between equipment through endless reviews, which distracts the community from the more important software issues [11:44].

The “Elephant in the Room” The central argument is that expensive sim racing hardware, such as direct drive wheels and motion rigs, cannot magically fix fundamental physics or force feedback issues within the simulator software [00:35]. The hardware is beholden to the reality of the simulator’s code.

Hardware Exposes Software Flaws The speaker contends that high-end equipment, like a costly direct drive wheel, doesn’t make a sim more realistic; instead, it often serves to emphasize or “describe” the existing flaws in the software [02:14]. For example, in a popular sim like iRacing, the hardware merely highlights the need to drive preemptively due to the car’s unrealistic behavior at the limit [01:21].

The Analogy of Diminishing Returns The video uses a hi-fi audio analogy to explain the concept: if you play “white noise” on a £100,000 stereo, the result will still be white noise—”garbage in, garbage out” [03:55], meaning the quality of the software is paramount. The speaker notes that high-end DD wheels are now deep into the “carbon fiber hockey stick zone” of diminishing returns, where improvements are minimal [08:07].

Focus on Software Improvement Instead of new hardware, the focus should be on improving the fundamental racing simulator software, such as how tires behave at the limit, balancing cars in slip, and developing better online ranking systems [08:17].

A Call for Software-Centric DD Wheels The speaker suggests that the future direction for direct drive wheels should be in telemetry-based force feedback and advanced software features (e.g., understeer effects) that can complement the sim, rather than endless minor motor technology tweaks [10:07].

How Many NM And Why

The Core Problem: Sim vs. Reality

The creator, drawing on his real-world karting and GT driving experience, explains that sim racing does not perfectly replicate the forces of real driving [01:48].

  • Real-World Racing: Drivers feel crucial feedback (e.g., tire load, slip, and weight transfer) intuitively through sustained G-forces and vibrations [02:04].
  • Sim Racing: Since sustained G-forces are absent, the steering wheel’s force feedback (FFB) shaft is the main source of input for feeling the car’s load [04:47]. Sim racing often simulates this load by making the wheel feel unrealistically heavy, which requires more powerful wheelbases [05:16].

The Power Paradox

The video contrasts low-power wheelbases (e.g., the Turtle Beach Velocity 1 at ~3 Nm, which is deemed not enough for serious racing [01:17]) with high-end wheelbases (25–39 Nm).

  • Hardware vs. Software: The main argument is that while direct drive hardware has advanced quickly, the sim software has not kept pace [06:01].
  • Inconsistent Experience: Running a very powerful wheelbase often leads to a poor experience because different sim titles (like iRacing, LMU, or ACC) handle the load differently [06:40]. This forces the user to constantly dial in and limit the output in the software, which can be a “headache” [09:26].
  • Fatigue and Unrealism: Running high power can make the driving experience unrealistically difficult and fatiguing. Real-world GT cars, which use power steering, are often smooth and controlled, not a constant physical fight [07:35].

The Case for Mid-Range Sim Gear

The speaker suggests that mid-range wheelbases, like those in the 8-10 Nm range, are often the best all-rounders [09:01].

  • Simplicity: Mid-range wheels can be run at 100% power with minimal setup effort, providing a good experience with few configuration headaches [09:34].
  • Value: The price gap between powerful direct drive wheelbases (21 Nm) and lower-powered belt/gear-driven wheels (5 Nm) is shrinking, which will tempt more users toward high-power gear [11:46].

The video concludes that while more power can be better, it is not strictly necessary [08:26] and often introduces more complexity than a good mid-range wheelbase.

Sim Racing Is No Longer Fit For Purpose

The term “sim racing” is no longer fit for purpose because the hobby has grown into a massive spectrum of conflicting interests [00:23]. The creator suggests that when one person says “sim racing,” they are often thinking of something completely different from someone else [00:37].

The spectrum of sim racing with three primary focuses:

  • Esports (Ultimate Performance)
    • This group aims for the ultimate exploitation of getting a virtual car around a virtual track as fast as possible [01:41].
    • Realism can be sacrificed for speed through exploiting track limits and setups [01:50].
    • The focus is on reducing variables, meaning they are often not interested in features like motion rigs or VR, which can introduce distractions or inconsistencies [05:42]. The video notes that some world champions will even drive in third-person view for better track limit exploitation [06:51].
  • Puritan Racing (Pure Wheel-to-Wheel Competition)
    • This focus is on the core, addictive rush of clean, wheel-to-wheel racing and competition, trying to outwit and overtake opponents [02:28].
    • The speaker notes this was his original perspective, where he focused on consistency and reducing variables to lap every time within a tenth of a second [04:58].
  • Ultra Immersion & Emotion
    • This group prioritizes a raw, powerful, and emotive experience over lap times [04:13].
    • This involves investing in high-end gear like six-degrees-of-freedom (6DOF) motion rigs and powerful wheelbases to physically feel the car [04:25].
    • A subset of this group seeks ultra realism, demanding the most accurate sounds, detailed car interiors, and strictly driving from a cockpit view [06:36].

NASCAR iRacing Series

Friday Open – NiS – Phoenix

  • David – P5
  • Chris – P 14. Top split. Went a lap down after staying out late under green flag stops hoping for a caution. P14 for a SOF of 4500 is not too bad. The NiS season ends with my first 2 career wins, 6th place in points for Div 2, and a 4000 iR. I want to thank Premier Racing Set-ups, iRacers Lounge Team, and Sim Wraps for a great season. Already thinking of the Daytona 500 in Feb.

Official Series

Ring Meister

  • Mike – P bought the new car the Audi 90 GTO first race top split started dead last 28th made my way up to finish P 13. What a fun powerful car one of the best experiences I’ve ever had on Iracing love it.
    • Start a dead last 23rd out of 23 got to fifth by the end of lap one but then later I stuffed it in the wall and fell back to finish P9 still a fantastic first lap man that’s a blast
    • Started dead last again P 22 finish P4. I got blisters on my hands and had to wear gloves this time.
    • Started fourth got the third wrecked myself in the banking U-turn thing. Fell back to ninth recovered ⅖.
    • Start at seventh going up the hill I tried to pass a guy on the right ended up in the grass trying not to hit him and then I was slow as the people came rushing by I got creamed DNF
    • P2

IMSA

  • Hall – P4 high finish at monza
  • Brad W – P12 – Wrecked Monza – What looked to be an ok race ended early on when a car was turned behind me coming into the hairpin only to slide and hit me. Leaving me with 9 minutes of damage. This track hates me.

League / Hosted Races

IRLP Winter Series

Week One – Daytona

  • David – P3
  • Justin – P2
  • Brad – P17 Was running in p3 when iRacing decided to lose connection. Again, never dropped from Discord or any other internet based application. Came back and was two laps down but had two speeding penalties after that. I had a great time driving and trying to solve all of NASCARs problems.
  • Chris – P11
  • Greg -P5
  • John – P21
  • Kris – P19

Grass Roots Racing

GTP/GT3 League – Monza Endurance Race

  • William W –  P4 – Maybe had a chance for 2nd but I took tires like a dummy on the first stop. Cold track had no wear. Came out of pits about 4 seconds ahead of 3rd and 4th but spun it in turn 1 on the out lap. Lost about 8 seconds and dropped to fourth. They started to fight and I thought I could catch them but a lapped car got in the way and I lost the draft. Was never close after that until the end of the race. Good result but sabotaged myself from better.
  • Brad W – P Last I think. I had a horrible qualifying and started very deep in the field. I was pushing very hard to try and gain some spots early on and just ran out of talent. Lost the car and took out some other drivers as well. I’m in a rut that is making this not as much fun as it used to be.
  • David – P ya’ll tell me the damn schedule!

Elbows Out Racing League (LMP2 and GT3 Wednesday Nights)

  • William- P13 – got wrecked on lap 7. Was running 6th and got a huge run on 5th out of ascari. Went to what would have been inside of parabolica and he decided he was going to squeeze me. I did come off the right shoulder slightly so not sure how the stewards will see it but it was just silly racing by that guy. I had caught him by 3 seconds over the last 4 laps and there was no way pass wouldn’t have finished by the end of the straight before iRacing glue took over and I flew into the wall.
