Reminded why the UI is worthless

The Great iRacing UI Debate rages on after over a year out of beta and always seems to be a hot topic

What I read from this thread is there is a group of old timers who have their entire process tailored to work with the idiosyncrasies of the web browser and those processes don’t work with the UI therefore it is worse. Then there is a group of newer users who tailored their processes to work with the idiosyncrasies of the UI and therefore don’t see a problem.

@1.) Mike Ellis these just popped up on my Insta feed. They have Pedal Sex appeal ???????? They look really well made and have ABS. I wonder if that means it’s just a rumble motor or something even better?! The elastomers are fully enclosed which is definitely a good thing with these LC pedals so you can’t over “squash” them and cause permanent deformation or even bust them. I also like the fact that once you calibrate them it’s saved on the PCB so no need for ingame calibration.

Mike –p20 – but finished on track p8 had a drive thru penalty that i didnt do – tough race 19 cautions longest green flag was 23 laps.

  • Wed Open:
    • Hall –p. Wrecked Out, was hand throttling with formula wheel, could make good lap times but wasn’t comfortable side by side, didn’t want to take someone out.  Then late just took myself out
      • Experienced a weird glitch with tires when serving a penalty

Ellis – p13 – Ended up w a drive thru too many incidents near the end – not enough time to recover – Probably ran as high as 7th… 21 cautions

  • Kyle P P-DQ’d out
  • Adam – Wrecked out
  • Stephen – Wrecked Out
  • Rochette P8 the birb is back in the car recovering chicken wing and all. Car felt great even being used and abused like the Bursa sac that was taking out of my shoulder. Damaged on start of race went down a lap a couple of times to get damage fixed and kept getting hit. Car still fast. Ended race with a very rare 1x to Dq 
  • Tom D – p5 – Started on the pole. Lead for the first 75 laps till I decided to pit.  Worked my way back to the lead, while taking it easy through lapped traffic the 2nd place car turned me.  Got a lot of damage and really wasn’t able to run fast laps.  I’ll take a top 5 and look forward to Sunday 
  • Thurs Open  
    • Ellis – p13 – started 19th got as high as 2nd on the final gwc, w 16x, Guy in second comes into me on the white I spin, dq’d…. 

Rochette P5 alot better run today with only 8x and stuck on the outside for a just aboot all 19 cautions

Fri open: COTA

  • Ellis –   p9 – started like 16th got to 11th by lap 1 – at the end of the long inner straight some guy went right across my brow as i made the sharp u-turn 25 seconds damage – only slipped like once and lost a couple of seconds other than that pretty flawless race – 
  • Hall – P. technical issue,  Tightened throttle cylinder, and couldn’t get the car to down shift the whole race, wasn’t getting enough response to blip.
  • Greg – p disconnected
  • Kyle – p6 Started P10 and worked my way up to the top 5 and held the top 5 all the way through pit cycles. Led 4 laps and pitted on lap 22 hoping to make up ground with fresh tires while the field had older tires. Came out P7 and just over drove the car the last 12 laps and finished with a solid P6.

Kyle – P.  P-5 was having PC issues restarted my PC during qualifying so started back in 18th. Started the race with shifter issues pitted lap 1 to fix it came out P26 got involved with a spin right in front of me and got some damage. Fell back to last P27 and worked my way up through the field. Pitted at the halfway point and came out P7. Continued to charge on and work up to a P5 I was running down 3rd and 4th but just ran out of laps. So I’ll take a solid P5.

    • Hall –p.7.  Caught by other cars wrecking 4 times, had to finish the 3rd green white checker with 16x.  Almost unlucky lucky.  Won’t be able to get in car again still Sunday.
    • Ellis – p. 19 – How a good run going and was actually marching forward on old tires from 19th as high as fourth at Lap 140 I got just a hair loose turn back to the right and it slammed to the wall over four minutes damage, lost two laps and this brought it home.

Ellis – p2 – Started 9 fairly clean race up front worked my way up to eventually leading w 50 to go – gwc restart guy divebombs from way back gets by, i then get into the back of him in the middle and get back by, but the guy in third goes by both of us and i cant hold if off and it was side by side at the line at .03 diff. Apologies to joseph lester for the bump and run

iRacing Improvement Suggestions

A conversation we had last week kicked off by Streamer Matt Malone regarding iRacing improvements was continued by listener DrOrzy.

  • Hey guys so after listening to the current episode I thought I’d put together my top 4 list of things to improve iRacing from 5th to my top change I would make/ask for…
  • 4 : Podium Celebrations – I think after the race is done a podium celebration screen of the top 3 would be nice. It could include the drivers names, SR and iR, maybe even fastest lap of the race they did all while spraying some champagne and chugging down a Shoey. Currently it’s rather bland and very uneventful when you finish a race on the podium or anywhere for that matter, just pull up and hit the exit button. Especially in long endurance events I think this would be cool
  • 3 : Pitlane Animations – I’d love to see the pitstops being animated especially in replays rather than just watching a car suspended in midair with nothing else around it.
  • 2 : 4x for Getting Rear Ended – This really needs to be looked at. It sucks big time that we have to cop a 4x for the pleasure of getting rear ended with no lube just because someone else is incapable of using their eyes and brakes. I think 1x is plenty for someone else’s stupidness. Maybe a 2x at the absolute most but 4x is just ridiculous. (edited)
  • 1 : Safety Car & VSC – My number 1 wish! Surely it’s about time for iRacing to introduce Safety cars and Virtual Safety Cars for Road racing. Especially now that we have a decent Formula 1 car to drive/race and more to the point Safety cars and VSC’s are just an integral part of Road racing just as yellow flags and blue flags are. Now I don’t want to jump into an official race and spend the entire 40mins behind a safety car just because people haven’t practiced and can’t keep it out of the wall. However I’m sure they could do something where if there is 4 or more cars involved it’s an automatic safety car and have other set parameters for when a Virtual Safety Car is triggered. Maybe even a predetermined random number of total X’s depending on length of race can trigger a Safety Car or something ????????‍♂️ Surely there is ways. I mean, it’s not perfect but Codemasters have figured it out so I’m sure iRacing could do it 10 times better

Carquest Joins the iRacing Sponsorship Team

Tyler D. Hudson posted the official announcement that Carquest Auto Parts, the automotive parts retailer in the Advance Auto Parts family of brands, has reached an agreement with iRacing and World of Outlaws to sponsor the iRacing World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series. In the series, more than 30 of the top virtual sprint car racers will compete to decide who is the world’s best on the virtual dirt.

The premier motorsports simulator, iRacing combines a true-to-life racing experience with an online community of virtual racers. The online racing competition service organizes, hosts and officiates online racing on a variety of officially licensed virtual tracks across the globe. All tracks on iRacing are scanned for millimeter accuracy and vehicles are designed in cooperation with manufacturers and race teams, offering users a first-class simulated racing experience.

“This partnership with iRacing is a tremendous opportunity for Carquest to become active in competitive online racing, which has become immensely popular in recent years,” said Junior Word, division president, Carquest North America. “We look forward to activating with iRacing’s World of Outlaws series to benefit our independent owners and reach more customers and race fans than ever.”

The Carquest World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series will begin in October with a series of six qualifying races. Those who qualify will compete in 10 World of Outlaws Pro Series races beginning in November and concluding in January, with the winner taking home the Carquest Cup and a grand prize of $10,000.

iRacing presents the Peachtree Three

After a successful debut event last summer that raised more than $57,000 for the cause, iRacing and the National Multiple Sclerosis Society will team up once again for a three-hour charity team racing event. iRacing presents the Peachtree Three Benefiting the National MS Society will take racers to Michelin Raceway Road Atlanta on Thursday, July 14, with donations accepted from now through the duration of the event at www.nationalMSsociety.org/iracing.

The Peachtree Three will feature the Chevrolet Corvette C8R GTE, Global Mazda MX-5 Cup car, and iRacing’s GT4 class all doing battle on the famous 12-turn, 2.54-mile Georgia road course. Competitors will have unlimited fast repairs to work with to ensure that all racers can make it to the finish line as they organize their own donations. The broadcast split, featuring iRacing executive producer Steve Myers, seven-time NASCAR Cup Series champion crew chief Chad Knaus, and 2020 eNASCAR Coca-Cola iRacing Series champion Nick Ottinger, will kick off at 8PM ET (midnight GMT). Additional race splits will launch at 10:00 GMT, 18:00 GMT, and 3:00 GMT (July 15).

Because the Peachtree Three is designed to raise money for charity, a number of purchasable advantages will be made available to teams in exchange for donations to the National MS Society. Teams can issue a drive through penalty to another competitor for $350, while teams can call a caution (limit 2) for $500 and a caution with a wave around (limit 1) for $1,000.

The iRacing Nürburgring Endurance Series will feature a series of 9 endurance races – each 4-6 hours long – on the combined Nürburgring VLN circuit. Drivers may participate solo or with a team.

For 2022, we have adjusted where the grid will line up so as to let all 5 classes get rolling before the green. The starting grid will be back near the Gantry. We have also added a third time slot on Saturday to give additional opportunities to race.

What is this series?: This series is essentially a grassroots series that is the backbone of the actual races that take place on the Nordschleife when it isn’t in use for public hot lapping. The series is made up of several motorsports clubs (part of either ADAC or DMV) which each host a 1-off event, totaling nine events throughout the year, and there is a ton of crossover with the Nurburgring 24 (Think Bathurst 12 Hour and Supercars Connection). The series has been run since 1977, and has a primarily German-based driver pool (Hence the use of each of our German brands). The series is pretty all encompassing when it comes to cars, with the 2009 year having 30 classes of cars, though much of the notable cars are from a Touring, GT3, or GT4 background. However, production cars are also allowed, thus creating the grassroots connection, with support from everything from Clio’s to BMW M Series cars.

Ellis –   p wrecked out – the guy directly in front of me pounds the wall in one and takes us all out – but before that i had hit the wall, then a caution – i came in took 4 tires and fuel and stayed about 30 seconds for damage once damage is done i got to pull away and all of sudden they are putting rights on again! I panic to go uncheck the tires quickly hit the left then right, but i think i inadvertently clicked on the right so they changed the rights again! – So I lost a lap, and took 1 set of lefts and 3 sets of rights all in the same stop.

  • Groves – Pwrecked out – early – 40 min damag

  • Hall – p WIN, after a horrible start to season, i take the win on a 3 laps shoot out.  With 70 laps to go, made the car too loose.  As a result though I was saving fuel and  was gonna make it, caution with 10 to go traps the guys that were leading but short pitted behind us.  Restart 3rd, take the lead in 1 lap.  Caution, 3 lap shoot out driving away.

Groves – p WIN – Started dead last, quickly made my way up to the top ten.  2nd half of the race, I stayed in the top 5.  Had the lead at 30 to go when a lap car got racy and I smacked the fence pretty good and lost the lead.  Caution came out with 8 or 9 to go and the leader pit giving me the lead.  I got a good restart and was able to put some distance between 2nd and take it home

  • Sunday fixed 
    • Mike –p14- Got dumped three different times from people that couldn’t hold their lane. Wasn’t too much damage so soldier on I found the wall a few times on my own and eventually wrecked really hard near the end. I suck. 
    • Stephen – pwrecked
    • Tyler – P8. Finally a dang Top 10. Finished with a 13x all from getting dinged and doored. Eventful race with cars going everywhere. Fixed set was just too dang tight. Early damage on lap two had my RPM down to 1967. Had to keep the car wound up on the outside. Another what could’ve been… On to Cota.

    • Hall –p.. Wreck out, was doing ok but its road points and not too worried
    • Ellis – p10- Start at 14th kept it really clean never spin off even once only had 12 X.

The iRacing CREVENTIC Endurance Series, a four-round team racing championship that sees iRacers team up to take on a series of 12-hour endurance events at some of the world’s premier road racing circuits, will return for the 2022 season with a new lineup of both cars and tracks. Headlined by the additions of Imola, the Porsche 911 GT3 Cup (992), and additional GT4 and Touring Car entries, the new series kicks off with a return to Circuit de Spa-Francorchamps on April 2.

2022 marks the second year of iRacing’s partnership with CREVENTIC, the organizers of the real-world 24H Series and iRacing’s NEO Endurance league. The union brings the strength of CREVENTIC’s organizational capabilities to a series that is open to all iRacing members. The four track selections represent some of the most legendary circuits in the world, while the eight eligible vehicles feature many of racing’s most iconic brands and competitive GT and touring cars.

The full CREVENTIC Endurance Series schedule is as follows:

·        June 4: Hockenheimring Baden-Württemberg

Fri open: Phoenix

  • Ellis –   p9- Came from 13th then it ran top five most of the race ended up getting loose as the race got closer to the end and lost it with 32 to go and lost all my track position. This was even more bittersweet than Wednesday night because the guy who won was actually crashed out Wednesday night and I had nothing for him. I really feel like that was an opportunity to win that I let slip it hurts. 
  • Tom D – P5 – started in the rear.  Was able to work my way up to the top 10 most of the race.  I was better on a long run.  Unfortunately we had a few cautions at the end of the race.  Was able to scrap to top 5. I’ll take it. Time for a little vacation. Will be back Wednesday for more fun and games. 
  • Rochette- Phoenix hates me race ended early with a ass losing it out of 2 missing the put barrels and right into me on the wall was early on so went to play some Horizon Forbidden west
  • Brian P8  Avoided a lot of the carnage that has been finding me on a regular basis, just couldn’t manage speed thru turns 3&4…or is it 1&2?
  • Groves – P wrecked out, phoenix sucks.  Got loose and some bonehead decided it would be fun to drive through me

  • Adam -p wrecked out- Top 10-5 speed last night, went from 22nd to 10th running down the next 5 cars in front me.. couple cautions and my cars gear wasn’t great for 3-4 laps and I fell back to 16th got frustrated busted my ass in turn 1 and smoked the wall. I was rolling center better than all the cars around me too

Rochette- Phoenix still hates me BURN THE DOGLEG DOWN jackass lost it in the dogleg and shot right into me against the front stretch wall with 14 to go and in 8th. Cant ever catch a break at Phoenix and we will not ever speak of Phoenix ever again stricken from my record

    • Mike –p3!- A record 21 caution of 86 laps of yellow. I got taken out a couple times went not a lot of damage and recovered well. 
    • Tyler – P12. Phoenix sucked! Really wasn’t a good race, got caught up in a few wrecks with other guys and even caught up in a wreck with my teammate. Had 20 incident point where maybe 4 of them were my fault. Caution fest with 21 cautions. Net coded with a guy where we touched rear tires and sent him spinning as we avoided a wreck. Gives me a nice 4x door hit under caution. Wasn’t a good night.

Race : Atlanta

  • Wed Open:
    • Hall –p. Wrecked, divebombed by the same driver that dive bombed several team mates monday.
    • Ellis – p13-Ran pretty good got up to P2 had bad luck with the way the cautions fell cautions come out right after I stopped under green flag not once but twice lost all my spots eventually I spun out and hit the wall pretty hard for 3 1/2 minutes damage and just brought it home
    • Tyler – P15 finished 2 laps down. Ran a solid race but missed pit entry on my final fuel lap. Ended up running out of gas coasting to pit road. Got loose in turn 2 and was taken out by a car who had their brake bias down in the 30s and couldn’t stop. Was able to get repaired and keep up with the top 8. Felt good to finally be fast. My luck will turn around. 
    • Rochette P1 Hey yo…. what ya get when you get a pole, led the most and fastest laps? Ya get a Chubby Birb in victory lane for a 3rd time in 9 nis starts. What a way to have a send off for old Atlanta and redemption for my 2nd places last year. Dominate car all race except on old tire restarts. But the birb  frankly didn’t give a damn by setting Atlanta and was Gone with the Wind

Tom D – P2 – Started 17th. Was running between 5th and 10th most of the race. Got caught once after green flag stops a lap down.  I was able to make my way to a top till there was a restart with 12 to go.  I decided to pit. Restarted 4th. Was just a little too loose on the restart. Made the pass for 2nd going to the line.  I’ll take a top 5 and look forward to Sunday

  • Thurs Open  
    • Ellis – p12 – got the steering ratio right but still sucked and would get loose in the middle of 1 and 2 and then pound the outside wall – maybe 6 or seven times. Not a bad finish for sucking so bad.
    • Adam – Wrecked out

Groves – P1 – Took the lead right before a green white checker.  Leader had been going on green all day, I decided to go early and get the jump and it worked.  The set made all the difference

Ellis – Fixed Ferrari Challenge – Spa – 3 starts, 1 finish not great but not bad… Cant wait for my wheel…


League/Hosted Races

  • FastTrack League – Phoenix
    1. David – p got taken out again by someone who didn’t hold his line.. 
    1. Greg p – p destroyed via flying car early on with no hood recovered to P3. 
    2. Mike – p18 – ran as high as tenth but was more like a 15th the 20th Pl. car especially on older tires. Cautions play in my favor I would gain track position. One incident I missed my breaking mark by a few feet and locked them up and slid into the admin of the league luckily we didn’t wreck. Got dive bombed by a guy and almost wrecked again I heard his name almost every time a caution came out… The final restart they all wrecked and I kind of drove through it but I got too many incidents in a black flag otherwise I might’ve had a top 10. 
    3. Adam – got wrecked going for the win on the outside when the leader lost it and rec the field.
  • Saturday – SIM 500 eSports Racing League 87 Car 
    • Mike -p Wrecked – Talladega – Lap8 the guy leading on the outside gets loose. That’s why used to happen to me all the time lol.

No New Atlanta Track in Build

Kyle Zimmer, as with many of us, posted in the forums his surprise that the new Atlanta update was not included in the season 2 build saying,”I know iRacing worked with NASCAR with Atlanta track. I am generally surprised that Atlanta update isn’t included to the build since NASCAR will be racing there in 2 weeks. I am just curious if “New” Atlanta will be release during season 2 in patch or will be in later dates?”

Should the Trucks be a Pro Qualifying Car?

What’s in the Mirror

Jed Danyliw asked in the iRacing forums, “Why doesn’t the new cup car have the rear view mirror and the rear camera on the dash?” Staffer Brian Simpson replied that the drivers are allowed to run both the rear view camera, and the actual mirror. In real life, some drivers don’t use the camera because they just don’t trust it since they don’t know if what they are seeing is what is actually there.

In iRacing, we don’t have that issue, the rear view camera is just another mirror portal. Those mirror portals are very expensive performance wise, and having 2 mirrors, both of which have essentially the same view seemed to be a massive performance hit without much actual benefit. So I opted to just have the rear view camera. Since we don’t have the rear view mirror, placing the camera there made sense.

Hacker group Lapsus$ has leaked the credentials of more than 71,000 Nvidia employees after the company did not acquiesce to its demands. The group stole the corporate data during a recent ransomware attack and threatened to release it if Nvidia didn’t remove its cryptocurrency mining limiter (LHR) from its RTX 30-series video cards.   • Ellis –   pP4 – after getting wrecked out early with three minutes damage got a top-five Holla!!!
  • Rochette- P1 the Chubby Birb flew into the strip, walked into the Mandalay Bay watched the Michael Jackson tribute show then went to the Roulette table put everything on the number 1 because thats was the number of the day. Pit it with like 35 to go and stayed out while others pitted was leading on the final restart but the new tires got me at the end I went to block down the back stretch on the white he was already there I got hooked.

Ellis – Wrecked out running fifth. Same guy don’t be that dumped me earlier in the ray so I had a minute and a half damage he finally took me out 11 minutes damage he took out the other fastest car in the race as well it wasn’t pretty.

    • Hall –p 7.  Caught in early wreck, minor damage.   Long run slow as result, Loosened the car up on late runs and had a GWC finish went from 13th to 7th
    • Ellis – p wrecked out – car was a rocket ship always moving forward, as high as p2… got wrecked running 6th where guy in front of me checked for a guy in front of him who was spinning out, i got off gas but it wasnt enough and i plowed in, car destroyed on lap 37
    • Tyler – P7 solid race car felt great. Gently brushed the wall on the tri oval entering turn 1 and really lost some speed and handling mid race. Happy to see Tom win as I was the last car he lapped before taking the checkered. Great set by the guys. 
    • Tom D – P1. Viva Las Vegas! Car was fast.  I was not planning on running, but was able to get out of work early.  Used the first ½ of the race to learn the car at Vegas.  Was able to take the lead right before green flag stops.  Came out of the pits 2nd and was able to run down the leader with about 25 to go.  Was able to run my laps and take down my first NexGen and Vegas win at my “Home Track”. Closest to Colorado.  Happy to take my first NiS win down so early in the season to keep my streak alive for another year.  Happy for the team. We are now 3 weeks into the NiS season and we have picked up a win as a team each week. Great job boys

New NIS Logo

Nick Simon noticed, and commented in the forums that iRacing has a new Nis Logo and is asking for files to add to his paints.

I see iRacing updated the NiS logo a few hours ago. Has a high res version been posted anywhere? Need it to update the logos on my spreadsheets, stream, and wouldn’t mind putting it on the car. Maybe someone on staff could help out?

One of iRacing’s strengths is its community and all the data it captures around that community. I was recently inspired by some blog posts correlating Safety Rating with iRating (spoiler: it’s there, but it’s loose) to go grab the data myself and do some personal analysis. In particular, while I know my iRating and SR, I wasn’t sure where that put me in terms of percentile rank against all other road racers.

Since my company specializes in data and analytics like this, I decided to build out a simple interface to answer that question, and I’ve published it using Tableau Public so any other nerds like me can do the same.

Random Snap Oversteer

Brodie Hannah posted in the forums his thoughts that the Next Gen has always had an issue with snap oversteer. This issues has been exaggerated even more with the new changes This is a phenomenon we’ve heard of from the tests, likely a design “feature” with the car. It does not like yaw at all, and any small amount of yaw will start a spin that may be unrecoverable. We saw Chase Elliott do it twice in less than 30 minutes at Phoenix, both started from very small amounts of yaw.

What a great turnout for the 3rd annual iRacers Lounge Podcast Fantasy League. I’m pretty stoked for another fun season, I see last year’s champion has returned and is starting out in a strong fashion in a 3 way tie for 3rd place with “A Random Tartingrade”(lol, great name) and our own JediMcFly(Chris Scales). My strategy of being ultra conservative didn’t totally payoff the way I was hoping but with it just being the first race, im not too bothered by it. We have lots to learn over the next few races as we head to California and hopefully get a better look at what we can expect throughout the season. Keselowski was a hot commodity this past week, could that be a trend? I’m not thinking its likely BUT with there being practice this year, we should have a better idea going into each week. I’ve got my eye on Larson this week, might be a good time to test the waters with him just remember there is only 10 uses!! Haven’t joined yet? What we mean when we say CPU-limited is that the CPU is taking more time on a frame than the GPU is, so the GPU finishes a frame and sits idle until the next one is sent from the CPU. In this case Reflex does nothing.

When you are GPU-limited the opposite is true, the CPU is producing frames quicker than the GPU can consume them. This means the GPU has to manage a backlog of frames every time it goes to grab one, and this leads to various weird problems. 

In this GPU-limited case Reflex will act as a messenger from the GPU to the CPU, telling it when the GPU is ready for a new frame. This means the CPU does less work to produce frames that will never be used, and the GPU has to sort through fewer stale frames that are actually a few ticks old. Reducing the number of frames left sitting in the queue is the focus of Reflex. Because this entire loop is how you get feedback on your own inputs (like steering) it means you can see the effects of your inputs a tiny bit quicker.

Fri open: Daytona

  • Ellis –   pDNF – Led a bunch of laps at one point had a break away of about 12 seconds, on a green flag stop i somehow only took 2 tires and 1 tank of fuel – i had actually used the mouse to check prior to getting on pit road, i have no idea how this happened… From there it went downhill from there never caught a caution had to pit on my own, got caught up in a wreck.
  • Rochette the Chubby Birb is the LONE Tifosi 2022 DAYTONA 500 CHAMPION…. Started in the back had several misses with wrecks. Was a lap down at 1 point from trying to push someone that didnt know how to hold a line. Got wave around on a caution and got a caution with 4 laps left in tank put me up front. Had a great battle with 2nd last 20 laps dodging lappers. But car was definitely faster. Thank Mike for hopping in last 30 laps and Brandon Yuhouse for a great looking car. First official win in the Next Gen and first win since July of 2020… IM A DAYTONA 500 AND INDY 500 CHAMPION 
  • Brian P2 – Kissing your sister.  Qualified around p10, and worked to the front to stay out of trouble.  Was a part of a couple of break-aways but kept regrouping after cautions. Wound up in a 3 car break for the last 20 laps.  On the last turn  the car on my high side used a lapper as a pick.  I tried to squeeze thru but we made contact.  Finished in 2nd with damage. 
  • Greg – Should have won
  • Sunday Open
    • Rochette- Pcaught in wreck rip
    • Hall – p 6.  Front Runner, has some bad luck with caution timing that cost me track position and this split didn’t have many guy’s that were good at pushing.
  • Sunday fixed 
    • Mike -pDNF – Wrecked out lap 16 the pack is lapping a lap car he is well off the wall and sure enough gets tagged and wrecks the field.

Race : Auto Club

  • Wed Open:
    • Hall –p20   Destroyed on lap 25, car a few places up gets turned right into to a corner.  Praying that he wouldn’t slide back up, but he did.
    • Tyler – P2 got a 4x on lap 2 as a guy locked up brakes avoiding a wreck. Battled back from going a lap down twice and a black flag for entering closed pits. Noob mistake. Late race caution for the GWC with an amazing setup helped me get the podium. Great help from the team before and during the race and felt really fast. 
    • Rochette P8 well this was fun. 15 cautions tagged in a few stayed on lead lap all night. Was doored and walled 8 to go and wrecked at checkered. 
  • Thurs Open  
    • Ellis – wrecked out
    • Steve – win
    • David – p17.  Ran top 5 as High as 2nd in top split.  Cautions every 2 laps for the last 20, coming to white flag I got just loose and had to collect it and lost all my spots

    • Kyle- P 1. Started P13 and just kept it clean. Made a last lap pass out of turn 2 and got pushed to the lead and walked away with the W!

We sent them a CAD file of what this track would look like in the fall of last year. They put it on their service, they built a couple of different variations of it. We played with banking a little bit, played with track with a little bit, played with different rumble strips in the corners, and [we] got a ton of great data and feedback from our Cup drivers and the professional eSports drivers that jumped on there.”

Would NASCAR be as willing to take these bold risks so quickly without the advantage of iRacing’s resources?

“Probably not,” said Earnhardt Jr., who also serves as an analyst for NBC Sports. “I think that iRacing being able to build this track and then let their really, really good, talented iRacers vet the track and give their feedback is an incredible scenario. It’s very lucky for NASCAR, especially with the position that NASCAR is in with this sort of new ambitious thought process of street courses.”

“I think iRacing opens up the possibilities, right?” Earnhardt Jr. said. “They [NASCAR officials] go into the projects with so much more confidence being able to build a virtual rendition of the track and being able to actually have competitors compete on that virtual track. You can make a render. You have an artist create a render or draw something, but you can’t race that render. You can’t put competitors on that render and let them go after it and see what they think.

“With the iRacing software and that component, it really opens up the possibilities of what NASCAR can do and how creative they can get.”

Porsche Supercup Week 1 Hockenheim

Ayhancan Guven took the victory in the first race of the 2022 Season of the Porsche Tag Heuer Supercup Series at Hockenheim. Graham Carroll finished second and Jeremy Bouteloup finshed third.

This is a race control program for iRacing. It is being developed by Richard Hibbs and myself. It is still in a alpha state, and under development.

Main features:

  • Live track positions of cars (Map if available, circle otherwise), with yellow highlight if driver is off track.
  • Live timing with laps, sector times, last and best lap times.
  • Sector and Lap times are logged for each driver.
  • Incident-logging for review and giving penalties, or no action. Can also enable public or private notification in the iRacing chat of incident review results.
  • Can give post-race time penalties (Only affects exports from iRaceControl, not iRacing)
  • Playback control.
  • Random yellows. Can set timeslots for random yellows, with a given probability.
  • Auto Steward. Can give drivers warning/drive-though/stop-go/dsq at set inc-counts. Can also throw full course yellows if the total inc-count exceeds a set value during the 1st lap, the last 10 seconds, or in total.
  • Pace car controls; Send out (throw a full course yellow), call in, add/reduce laps to be run.
  • Buttons for closing and opening of the pit entry.
  • Button for advancing to next session.
  • Start control: Buttons for initiation of race start, or to postpone it.
  • Clocks for both session time remaining and session/race run time.

But it was a short track and didnt lose much speed, but later got ran over from behind and dumped basically.

Poor Next Gen Braking Performance

iRacing member Isaac Lockhert noticed while racing the Next gen Cup car at the Charlotte roval course that he actually had to back up his break points compared to to Gen 6 car and blamed poorer brake performance. Staffer Matt Holden posted a reply with his explanation of why this is.

There’s a lot behind the “curtain” that has to be considered between the two cars. First and foremost, the NextGen brakes do provide more stopping power at their peak than the Gen 6 car, but there’s other stuff going on. Mason is right that the Master Cylinders are intentionally set to be larger than optimum, which basically means you can go to 100% brake pedal travel without lockup on initial braking. This helps with people who are more arrive-and-drive since front lockups tend to be harder to recover from than just a softer brake pedal. Reducing MC size will increase line pressure and cause the brakes to bite harder, but can more easily lock up.

Also, NextGen cars have the temperature system enabled on the brakes while the Gen 6 did not. This basically means the G6 brakes are always at optimum temperature, the NG brakes start too cold, thus don’t have as much power as they could, and will start fading with excessive heat. It’s actually quite difficult to get all four rotors to run in the optimum temp range (usually the front rotors overheat when the rears are optimum), so brake performance can suffer slightly. There’s also some engine braking differences between Gen 6, but all-in-all we’ve gotten feedback from the real drivers that the performance is accurate on the NextGen. The most common thing I heard from real drivers was that the Gen 6 brakes were way too powerful than the real things.

World of Outlaws Week 10 [Brian/Mike]

The iRacing Nos Energy Drink World of Outlaws Sprint Car series closed out Monday at the Dirt Track at Charlotte. Coming into the race Cameron Merriman held a 13 point lead over 3 time returning champion Alex Bergeron with James Edens 19 points back, third in the points.

Blake Matjoulis was fast in qualifying and won heat number one and earned the feature pole. Merriman was second fastest in qualifying, won his heat and would start on the outside of the front row for the feature.

Meanwhile Bergeron did not have great qualifying effort. Bergeron qualified 21st, started 6th in his heat, and managed only to make his way to third meaning he would start in the fifth row of the feature.

That put Merriman in great position since Bergeron would need to finish at least 5 spots ahead of him to take the championship.

After the flag dropped, Merriman was able to get by Matjoulis 6 laps into the race running the high line around the track. He stayed comfortably ahead of the field while Bergeron charged all the way up to p5.

With the race staying green, the only way he could loose the championship is of he made a major mistake like happened at Fairbury. But no, Merriman stays clear of lap traffic and take his only race win of the season and claiming the 2022 Championship and the $10,000 prize.

  • PDS Euro Sprint Series
    • Hall – P1 at Suzuka.  Unusual win.  Was close at first, then started to pull away from 2nd as tires got warm.  I GTE gets loose beside me and pops for what would be 5 seconds damage.  Didn’t hurt the car except for long straights.  Held on as Long as I could lost the lead a few laps before pit window.  Pitted and fixed 5 seconds, cycled out later to 5 seconds behind lead.  Catch him, and he’s as fast as me on the long straights, but weak in the S’s, i finally setup a pass on the out side of the final left hander and pull away.

League / Hosted Races

  • FastTrack League
  1. David – p1, stayed in top 4 for whole race with pole.  Took lead on 2nd to last restart, big wreck.   Final restart to few cars out side line couldn’t form up.  2nd place car tried to lay back so I let off to limit his run.  Took win.

  3. Mike – Wrecked out – Tifosi front row Q – We ran up front until i got hooked.

    1. Mike -p17 – Charlotte – hit the wall hard 3 times and through the grass once, was enough to lose my track position to the back, gained back a few spots through attrition. GF stop at half way then caution right after put me and others down a lap fighting for lucky dog. I held it for the first part of the run but lost it eventually because I never caught that next caution
