The GT3 cars are getting an AI update in the new build and iRacing posted a video of a human driver with an AI field at Road Atlanta.

Build Aftermath [Greg]

Shortly after the release of the new build iRacing had an issue where you couldn’t get into practice sessions. If you registered early for a race you couldn’t get into the Open Practice, but when the race started you could get in at that time.

UMP Modified Problems [Adam]

Tanner Clawson posted in the forums that he thinks the update ruined what was a fun class to run, the UMP Modifieds. The car has no hike and is nothing like what a real Modified would be like. Tyler Hudson for iRacing replied that they’re looking to patch soon and have improvements in for this car. He just tested them and it’s back to more like it was prior to the patch but with the current car’s tire.

UMP Gets Pulled [Mike]

The UMP’s did get pulled from week 13 as announced by Tyler Hudson as the patch will not be deployed until early next week.

Bark River Bumps [Hall]

Nick Neben noticed that it appears a bump was modeled graphically on the second to last corner, but does nothing as the underlying track we drive on does not have it. So every car just drives through the mound on corner entry. Others in the forums confirmed the situation, but iRacing has yet to resolve the problem.

The McLaren 540s GT4 was a part of the season 2 hotfix update.

Why in a Hotfix [Adam]

So, why was the release of the McLaren done in a hotfix and not with the build update? According to Shawn Nash at iRacing it had to do with a last minute licensing approval and came as a surprise to many of the staff as well as us.

The Bubble has Arrived [Hall]

Paul Johnson mentioned in the forums regarding the new aero package that you can’t just run wide open anymore, you have to have the guy in front back up to you by dragging the brake or you have to get a huge run to break the bubble. But the bubble feels a little strong right now. iRacing’s Eric Hudec responded that Paul is correct, and we spent a lot of time making sure what happens in the sim is what’s happening on the real cars. Cars up in the front should be roughly “stalled” behind another car and stuck against a bubble, cars in the back (or locked onto another car) should be having to lift off the throttle to keep from driving through cars in front.

The iRacing Road to Pro Series debuted this week with a photo fines in split 2 with Santiago Tirres barely holding off teammate Nick Shelton. Jacob Hitz Tweeted the video with a shout out to STN Racing for running the show.

Santiago Tirres also Tweeted his thanks to everyone in his box and the Norse Force Racing setup guys after the photo finish victory.

How Many Cores Do We Use Now? [Mike]

In a forum thread wondering about the amount of threads iRacing uses David Tucker mentioned on a forum thread that “now that sound is using a full thread it is possible to have 4 working very hard with our physics, graphics, particle effect, and sound threads. We also have a pile of helper threads to handle side tasks like painting cars and loading faster Having more cores for those helps but usually not when out on track”.

Race:  Vegas

  • Fri op en: Vegas
    • Ellis –  – p  blew up – started 4th ran good to the first caution – realized on the 2 to go my shifter is not working and i cant get out of 4th – so i pit on 1 to go to green to reboot wheel – get black flag, have to pit under green – Finally got a wave around and then on the restart some guy went up from 2nd to 3rd then just stopped going and we all piled in – blew up not long after that

David = P  horrible, loaded Q set, not didn’t change, loaded Q set

Brian- P 8  Started P2 Liked this set good on long runs, but there were none.  Fighting for top 5 after late restart but was caught up in a wreck in front of me.

  • Sunday Open
    • David – p  bad, sped in pits, never got it back
  • Tom D – P11.  Was a huge up and down race. Qualified 4th.  Got spun, no yellow.  Was able to work my way back up

Rochette- P5 stayed top 8 all race late yellow killed my long run 2nd place spot with 28 to go

  • Sunday fixed 
    • Mike -p 12 got wrecked lap 1 – enough damage that i was running about 30th the whole race – with late cautions and other wrecks, hung in there and got clear up to p12~! 
  • Stephen – wrecked out
  • Tyler – P 10 did not qualify but stayed clean. Longest run was early at about 30laps. Kept digging on late restarts and snagged a top 10. Car was super tight but the tires were still good.

Race:  Phx

  • Wed Open:
    • Hall – p9 good on long run, got to return a favor

Ellis – p6 – Had a couple of minor incidents not too much damage – but had to come from the back maybe 3 or 4 times – was as high as 4th faded a bit on the long run –

  • Thurs Open  

Ellis – p – DNF – Had a good run going, running top 5 as high as 2nd – 20 something cautions it was nuts – at some point i pitted for tires after 50 laps and that put me back where i got involved in some of the wrecks – Eventually 5 to go another wreck put me out

      • Podium in the 488 and 217

Brian P6  Long Beach  Started in the back,  couple of wrecks.  Enjoyed this track a lot in the Skippies


League / Hosted Races

  • FastTrack Sim Racing League
    • Mike- p16 – stayed out on early caution so we would have an extra set of tires, but never got the late caution to use it – last run was slick and i was sliding around losing spots.
    • Stephen – Throughput fell to unacceptable levels
    • Tom D. P9.  Good points day. Kept my nose clean during early carnage.  Got shuffled around, but I’ll take a top 10
  • Premier Race Network Cup:
    • Tom D – p3.  Qualified on the pole, my second of the year.  Fell back to 15 on start will a bad turn 1 and being way too conservative.  Was able to work my way back to top 5 and ran there the rest of the race.
  • OBRL ARCA Series 
    • Brian P21 Talladega  Stayed in the back due to technical issues.  Coulda been worse

  • Lap 11 – caution -THE BIG ONE –  Contact between @Blade_Whitt and @BowlinGraham triggers a multi-car incident down the backstretch into T3. Bowlin not happy with Whitt, @GarrettLowe_6 not happy with the lack of brakes behind him.
    • Pit stops  – Several pit, several stay out. 
  • Tim Dugger interview – Then caution lap 18 – @jmullisracing and @bdavies_88 get together in Turn 1… multiple cars destroyed. The pit strategy did NOT pay off.
  • Luza wilson leading then caution lap 33 – @rayalfalla has heavy damage after a nudge from @CVincent34… Alfalla sawed on the wheel and looked like he almost had it, but then went dead right and into the wall hard. was carving his way thru the field too. Everyone pits
  • Restart lap 48 = clampitt novak guest – luza crowder wilson bussa kirwan shearburn
  • LEAD CHANGE LAP 39: @swilson3_ outside Clampitt and brings @RyanLuza with him!
  • Top 5 stayed out –  a few laps later caution lap 43
  • Manes and Duval involved – it was 4 wide and got slammed into the wall hard. @DDuval42, @GarrettManes, @IGann_34 and @CVincent34 get the worst of it.
  • Going green for a bit now at halfway it is wilson kirwin luza up front –
    • Now, @swilson3_ has led 15 laps of 53, second most in tonight’s field.
    • @RyanLuza has led 21 so far.
  • Caution lap 67 – Gann in trouble was two wide trying to get by ray alfalla and they ended up bouncing off each other pretty hard.
  • A few laps of green then luza fighting wilson for the lead side by side several laps in a row – then shearburn making it 3 wide for the lead!
  • It took a while, but @RyanLuza finally prevails on the high side to pass @swilson3_ for the lead at lap 83! Eventually the lead shakes out back to single file – and it is luza – wilson kirwin cook ray lyon shearburn hurst olat
  • Douchette spins himself off of Derek Justice nose – but no caution.
  • Luza and kirwin pit under green with 32 to go – then wilson pits – Malik Ray takes Lead
    • @MalikRayTTV is going to try and make it the distance per the broadcast.
    • The 11 leads the 4 of @RyanLuza by 22 seconds with 21 laps to go.
  • 15 to go – malik ray is about a lap short but he is hoping for a caution
  • Whitt 2nd matheson third – nvak boes – luza about 10 seconds back with 10 to go

Race:  Vegas

  • David = P 23, no cautions
  • Rochette P9 just not fast enough 
  • Groves- P 13 – should have been top 10, got smacked around at the end.  Limped it to the finish line
  • Saturday Fixed –
    • Tyler – P 23 – started 33rd. Green flag stop on lap 60- 44% onRF. first caution on Lap 80 was First caution. Ran great into the top 15 and had late caution that set up the GWC. As the leader crossed the start finish line for the white flag caution came out. I was P9 and saw the leader cross the line heading into turn 1 as caution dropped. Tangled up in wreck on last restart and finished 23rd. 
  • Sunday Open
    • David – p wrecked, guy says he held his brakes, I don’t believe him
    • Adam- p
    • Tom D – P5.  Worked my way up from 27th in qualifying (yes I did qualify). Ran in top 8 all race.  A late race restart and a couple guys just had faster early speed.  But I’ll take a top 5
  • Sunday fixed 
    • Mike -p8 – started like 18th but worked my way up to back half of top ten basically – 9 or 10 cautions though. I felt like the only way to do better was to have track position from Q and keep it.
    • Brian – P19-started P2. Stayed in top 10 all race.  Caution with 6 to go.  Restarted in 7th but got tangled in wreck with 2 to go.  
    • Stephen – 
    • Tyler – P32 – started P31 nice long green run to lap 40 moved up to 18th. Car was good but blew the motor on a restart. Ripping 3rd to 2nd = boom

Race:  Vegas

  • Wed Open:
    • Hall – p19 got loose on last run in a hard 3 wide battle bouncing of the wall.
    • Tom D. P24. Wow, had some issues at beginning and got damaged.  Unfortunately the race went caution free.  I’ll get another shot Sunday 
    • Ellis – p23 – started 10th ran 4th to 9th basically all night – spun myself out trying too hard on the final restart, wow i suk
    • Rochette – P4 great on long run but just a tad loose and lappers were blocking the bottom
  • Thurs Open  
    • Ellis – p9 ran top 5 for first run then got door slammed twice for some damage – 20 down on revs – came up from the back to about 16th –  then pit strategy got me to 9th at the end.

Official Series

12 Hours of Bathurst with OBRL team- P15  finished race. Got a good bit of damage from multiple incidents from a lot of aggressive driving

League / Hosted Races

  • FastTrack Sim Racing League
    • Mike- p17 – 39 drivers started i started 31st – moved up was running high as ninth but got wrecked ran to the wall around lap 90
    • Tom D. P6  –  Big field. Started 29th (one day I’ll learn how to qualify-doubt it). Got big RF damage early after getting into top 10.  Fell back to 26th during green flag stops.  A yellow came out to allow me to fix damage.  Worked my way back into top 10. Was able to work into 6th on GWC.
  • Ucora- ucrl Atlanta INDYCAR 
    • Mike – pwrecked out Coming off that road after the final green flag stop I go and it to keep up with teammate David Hall and I spun it down to the inside wall and wrecked my car I quickly towed out to not cause a caution.
  • Premier Race Network Cup:
    • Tom D – p6. Ran in the top 5 all race. Made a slight mistake in green flag stops. But I’ll take a decent finish

It looks like one of the NIS sessions last week at the Road Course at Daytona began with a standing start, and it was confirmed in the forums by others in multiple splits. There was no comment from any of the staff from iRacing regarding the issue.

Blackout Dates [Brian]

Dan Willis noticed that sometimes when using the UI and trying to create a test session the month is grayed out and you can’t select it and asked why in the forums. Daytona Road

  • Fri open:
    • Ellis –  – p19 – started dead lastp34, got lots of incidents and had a drive through penalty
    • David = P24. slow in top split
  • Sunday Open
    • David – p 9, not as slow in 2nd split
    • Adam- p10 while hungover from birthday party until 2am, somehow didn’t drive off the track, goal was to follow David and stay on the track, first NIS top 10 in a year
    • Tom D – P18. Just tried to live to the next lap
  • Sunday fixed 
    • Mike -p24 – started in back got as high as 18th but a few spin offs put me back –
    • Brian – P22 Started in the rear.  Took some damage when a car got into me on the first lap chicane.  Had 2 self spins early getting the power down, but gained confidence by the end of the race.  Way more fun than I was expecting.  Finished with 3X.
    • Stephen – DNF after lap 5

Race:  Miami

  • Wed Open:
    • Hall – p19, pit road merge violation cost me a shot at a top 5
    • Tom D. P17. Got caught a lap down from putting under green. Was not able to move my up on old tires.  Hopefully better luck on Sunday morning 
    • Ellis – p 24 got wrecked out about lap 10 could not miss it – stayed in the race though many laps down

Rochette – P11 experimented with the iracing open set… was slow

  • Thurs Open  
    • Ellis – p19 – Start a 24th and had a fantastic save on lap one where I got 12 seconds damage with a 4X. It’s stayed green though caution and we went green till lap 95 at that point I was a lucky dog P 12 then another quick caution. Then to cautions later I get caught up in the big one good Mesut at the whole front crushed   

Official Series

  • Hall 
    • Montreal
  • C open-Autoclub Adam, started 9th, ended up 5th
  • B open- homestead: started front row p2, race went green flag for 90 laps, was going for 4th, slipped and fell to 6th then ended up back in 5th


League / Hosted Races

  • Pacific Majors – Daytona 500 – 87 cup cars
    • Hall – p22 pro split 1, was surviving most of the carnage then just got dumped by a lap car in the first half of the race.  Most positions gained after that were through attrition 
    •  Tom – p.30. Dang. Not my best run. But I can say goodbye to the 87 cup cars for a while 
  • Dirty Monkey Autism Race
    • Mike – p2 – led the most laps – won a hat and $55 in credits, only 15 to get in – had no help at the end, it was 3 of us they were together on the bottom
  • FastTrack Sim Racing League
    • Mike- dnf -was having a good run about 11th  and it hooked right coming out of the bus stop head on into the wall, 5 minutes damage – parked it
    • Tom D. P10.  Should have finished top 5 but I had a few stupid self spins.
  • Premier Race Network Cup:
    • Tom D – 18th. Qualified on pole @ Daytona RC. Got involved in a crash while trying to lap a set of cars near end of race.
  • OBRL ARCA Series 
    • Scales –
    • Groves-
    • Brian P14 Started outside pole. Went green until the first pitstop. Was still in 2nd.  Sped entering pits.  One late caution, but couldn’t recover.  Dumb mistake. Other playoff cars had issues, and may have been able to squeak into the final 4, but not after the screwup.

The eRacr Carnomaly 500 began this week with the prelim qualifier races today and yesterday. It’s a $25 to enter and $15,000 prize purse event at Daytona in the unrestricted COT car cumulating in the pole qualifying on the 24th, the Battle 150’s on the 25th and the 500 mile feature on March 3rd.

Special Event – What to Expect [Hall]

Alex Gustafson posted in the forums what’s new to expect and prepare for in the iRacing Special Events including a change to the registration processing they expect will help this process. Once the main registration period closes, and splits are being made prior to events beginning to launch, the scheduler is simply not going to allow any additional members to register until all sessions have finished launching. This will give the scheduler unimpeded time to do its thing. Those who try to register during this time period will not be allowed to register. They’ll receive a new error message that says, “Please wait, registration is temporarily closed while the session launches. You will be able to register once the session has fully started.“.

    • Ellis –  – DNF – Shifters stopped working during a GF stop lost the draft remapping shifters to keyboard – then was a lap down in the front pack when they all wrecked including me
    • Greg – p Wrecked on the straight with 50 to go
    • David = P 11, broken car early by another car on apron again, but stuck it out through a lot of attrition
    • Rochette P4-  white flag was about to pass leader on the outside and some asshat on the inside clipped me on the corner wrecking me. Made me wanna punch a baby seal
    • Groves- P1 
  • Sunday Open
    • David – p17 GWC in position to win, hooked by car who bounced off wall
    • Tom D – P9.  Ran top 5 all race. A bit too much bumping and banging on the final laps, got crashed, but pulled off a top 10 in the 500. So I can’t complain 
    • Rochette- P 
    • Brian – P3 Ran up front all race.  Lead 38 laps. Made a bad no-pit call which kept put me in third on the final laps instead of first.
  • Sunday fixed 
    • Mike -p.Got Pole Position – Led many laps early ran top 5 basically just riding – lap 117 the top two tangle and take out the field.
    • Brian – P11 Pushed to the lead inside of 20 laps to go.  Car was the cleanest of the leaders.  Lap car who wouldn’t clear the track wrecked the lead pack.

    • Mike- dnf. Started 17th got the lead by lap eight. Let the most lab stayed in the top 4 basically with about 25 to go I was first on the outside pushed by Josh Campbell. And basically got turned going down the back street he was pushing on the right corner of the bumper and it is hooked me. I was holding a really straight line. It couldn’t of been straighter. I felt good about Josh Campbell pushing me I have raced against him in several different leagues, and him and his guys are some of the cars to beat every time for sure. 
  • Ucora- 
    • Mike – p15 – spun off turn 2 and killed the car but luckily I had a reset, hit the wall several times and ended up causing a late caution 
  • David -p13 self spun, wasn’t fast anyway
  • Premier Race Network Cup:
    • Tom D – Daytona 250 winner!  Had some computer issues to start the race. Missed q and had to start from pits.  Was able to work my lap back, than on a late race restart was able to take the lead and not give it back. Moves me to the playoffs, now time to get more playoff points. 
  • OBRL ARCA Series 
    • Brian P17 Screwed the pooch on qualifying.  Involved in an incident early in the race. No caution, but 5 minutes of repair. Chance of advancing to the final 4….shot.

Fixed Setups Doesn’t Mean Full Fuel [Hall]

Dave Bush Tried to set up a hosted race with fixed setups. He wanted to start with a full tank of fuel, but it only started with about 60% and wondered what he did wrong and asked the forums. Nick Neben replied that “fuel capacity does not equal what the set starts with, that is all done in the garage. If you just used an iRacing default those are not set to full, you would have to change that, and save it, and upload it if you were doing fixed.”

World of Outlaws Round 10 Charlotte [Brian/Mike]

Monday Night was the 10th and final week of the NOS Energy Drink iRacing World of Outlaws Series at the Dirt Track at Charlotte, Alex Bergeron entered the race with a 30 point lead over Hayden Cardwell after his disappointing finish last week at Williams Grove and in a great position to win his third consecutive series Championship.

Aussie Tim Ryan posted fast time in qualifying and took the win in the first heat, grabbing the pole for the feature.

Heat 2 went tp Greggory Lemay (LE – MAY) after his best qualifying run and best finish in the heats.

Bergeron started outside row one in Heat 3 beside pole sitter Kendell Tucker. However Tucker remained fast and consistent for the win, with Bergeron grabbing second.

Hayden Cardwell started on the pole for Heat 4 and gets a much needed win to keep the pressure on Bergeron for the series championship.

So, setting up the feature we have Tim Ryan on the pole, Cardwell starting P3 and Bergeron starting P7 needing a top ten to lock up the championship, if Cardwell wins the race.

When the green dropped, Tim Ryan had the speed to separate himself from the field even after regrouping twice with cautions to win his second race of the year without much of a challenge.

Cardwell quickly took 2nd at the start of the race, but never really challenged Ryan for the win finishing P2.

Bergeron had some tense moments early in the race with heavy traffic that he eventually cleared, settling comfortably in 4th and capturing his third straight title and taking home the $10k champions prize.

Last wee we reviewed a video called Brick x Brick chronicling the former driver and paraplegic Robert Wickens as he shows his rig that has let him get back into racing. Staffer David Tucker posted the video on the forums and announced that he is adding support for dual throttle and brake inputs in iRacing, letting him to be able to combine paddles if needed and use a handbrake and paddle together as well.

World of Outlaws Round 9 Williams Grove [Brian]

Monday night was week 9 of the iRacing Nos Energy Drink World of Outlaws Sprint Car Championship from Williams Grove Speedway in Mechanicsburg, PA. With last weeks win Hayden Cardwell pulled within 2 points of the leader, and 2 time defending champion, Alex Bergeron.

The first surprise comes early when Lewis Hewett takes fast time in qualifying ahead of Bergeron who always has great speed at the Grove, and Cardwell qualifies P5

So Hewett starts on the pole with Cardwell on the outside in the first heat. Hewitt takes an early lead but with Cardwell closing late, tries a desperate slide job on the final turn that is ultimately unsuccessful finishing P2.

Heat 2 found Bergeron on the pole with former series champion Tim Ryan on his outside. Bergeron takes the early lead, but Ryan finds enough speed to get to his inside on the front strait where they make contact. Bergeron get the worst of the contact, hitting the wall, but managing to take second and missing the chance to add a heat race point to his slim series lead over Cardwell.

Cameron Merryman takes the win in heat 3 ahead of James Edens and the final heat is won by Tyler Schell.

After 2 desperately run B main races we come to the feature event of the night with Hewitt on the pole and Tim Ryan on the outside with championship contenders Hayden Cardwell and Alex Bergeron starting side by side on row 3.

The drama started right away when ont he first lap Cardwell spins after getting into the back of Bergeron in the middle of turn 4. He will be restarting in the back of the field, P20 with a monumental challenge to just stay in the championship hunt.

When the green comes back out Lewis Hewett takes the lead until Tyler Schell grabs it from him on lap 6 with Alex Bergeron on his heals. The 2 remain nose to tail for the remainder of the race and Tyler Schell grabs his first win in the sim’s top series. Bergeron holds second and Cameron Merryman grabs third. Cardwell can only make his way up to 12th finding himself 30 points behind Bergeron going into the finale at The Dirt Track at Charlotte

Pit Speed Limit Discussion [Mike]

So i use simracingapps count down to pit road, and it has a visual, MPH, in tenths. So if pit road speed is 55, I can use that meter and increase my speed from 55.0 to 55.9 without it beeping at me – Being able to see it to the tenths helps you find that spot on the throttle when your closer to 56 instead of 55..

Porsche Cars Canada, Ltd. is seeking the fastest 40 Canadian Sim Racers to race in an epic 8 event series. The Porsche Esports Sprint Challenge Canada will take place on iRacing.com with two classes – the Porsche 718 Cayman GT4 Clubsport MR and, new for this year, the 911 GT3 Cup.  To enter, set your best times at Canadian Tire Motorsports Park, Circuit Gilles Villeneuve and Laguna Seca from January 29 to February 11, 2021 using the 911 GT3 Cup. Galaxy Cup Series

The Galaxy iRacing League (GiL) was started a couple of years ago to race the NASCAR “A” class cars. The race lengths, scoring system, playoff procedure and rules follow hand-in-hand with the real-life NASCAR Cup Series. The goal of this league is to create a community of race enthusiasts that are respectful of one another on and off the track, and enjoy racing in series that closely simulate their real-life counterparts. The Admin team is diverse, ranging in age and areas of the country that we reside. One of the admins is a retired NASCAR official and a crew chief, and another one of the admin’s is a retired championship-winning NASCAR crew chief.
2020 was the first full-time season for Galaxy Cup. We are excited about the 2021 season, as we have added more drivers and some prizes. We are working towards title sponsorship of the series and race purses.

The GiL is centered around the Galaxy Cup Series. Most of the races run Saturday nights. There are 5 races that run on Friday nights, because those are the races that the real-life Cup series runs Saturday nights.
The GiL currently also runs a Truck Series. This series runs on Friday nights on the same race weekend as the real life Truck series. If the Galaxy Cup is racing Friday nights, then the Truck Series races on Thursday.

    • Ellis – p16 out of 22- best lap a 1:44.1, had a good start gained 7 spots then got punted in turn two on lap 2, went clear to the back – 15x out of 17x

    • Hall – P1  Daytona  in 919

Tom D – 3 wins in the LMP2 getting ready for the 24 hours @ Daytona. The 3rd win now puts me at 100 wins in Official iRacing races in all classes. I’m super proud of this.

    • Ellis – p 5 texas – lead the most laps – by lap 10 i had gone 14th to 1st – long run to end, I ran the tires off and faded – Mike Ramos4 in the race even told me ellis your gonna run the tires off!
      • P18 – got caught up in 1st caution someone hit the wall no where to go – then wrecked in final restart bad someone cant hold a line.
      • P 16 – started 17th got up to 4th but started blinking they said – Quality was 100,90 – so i pulled up and let the pack go…

    • Hall – p12 GTE.  Problem with an LMP2 who thought 2 wide was a good idea in the bus stop.  Other wise clean.

World of Outlaws Round 8 – Kokomo [Brian, Mike]

Round 8 of the NOS World of Outlaws World Championship was at Kokomo Speedway with Alex Bergeron holding a 10 point lead over Hayden Cardwell and no one else even close.

Bergeron took the lead early in the feature with Cardwell up to 4th after the first lap.

By lap 10 Cardwell had made his way up to 2nd and was following Bergeron outside of striking range as they worked their way thru traffic, Then, with just 6 laps to go, Zane Smith spins in front of the leader Bergeron and he can’t avoid the collision, getting significant front end damage.

But in a stroke of good luck, the caution actually came out just before the contact, so Alex was able to resume the race in front Cardwell was able to avoid the mess and was able to take advantage of Bergeron’s ill handling car, take the lead and the win. with James Edens taking second and Tyler Schell i third.

Bergeron fell to the fourth spot which was good enough to maintain a razor thin 2 point lead over Cardwell heading into the 9th round on Monday at Williams Grove Speedway.

RIP Junior [Hall]

Alan Pajari from the Winter Series League regretfully announced the passing of fellow racer and One Up Motorsports team member Jason K Miller, known to his fellow racers as ‘Junior’ and was described by Alan as a tremendous person who was funny, thoughtful and serious when the situation asked for it. Christian Challener also added that, “Jason Miller was one of the unspoken greats of the iRacing oval community. He had time for everyone and raced with respect. An absolute masterclass in how to conduct yourself.”

Greg West announced on the forums the creation of the BMW SIM GT Cup, the successor to the BMW SIM 120 Cup. Divided into two seasons, a total of ten races will take place in 2021. A total prize purse of 4,200 US dollars is up for grabs for the top three teams in the first four races of each season. The races are 120 minutes long and include a mandatory driver changeover. The dates have already been confirmed for Season 1 in the BMW M8 GTE, with the opening round taking place at the virtual ‘Daytona International Speedway’ on 17th January

These events are team races with a minimum of 2 drivers required. The fair share driving rules will be used.

  • Ellis  – p Ferrari GT Challenge- 
    • Watkins Glen – p9,. Started 16th – some early carnage i missed it – clean after that
    • Bobby – got pole finished 3rd
    • P13 – after starting p16 – just no pace
  • Class A Fixed
    • Ellis – p5 – texas – started p19 – via attrition and barely missing some early wrecks worked my way up – 10 to go or so got wrecked only 30 seconds damage still had my revs – drove it from 12th to 5th – I sucked on the restarts bad lost on a couple of them
  • P22 – tried again – 1 caution lap 3 then green from there was high as 7th but i was expecting cautions and ran my tires hard to move up – faded to p22 hit the wall like 3 times pushing
  • Brian – Ran several races over the weekend in the Skippy’s at Watkins Glen trying to advance my license in order to race in the 24 Hours of Daytona.  Best finish was a P4, but I advanced to a C license, gained about 150 iRating,,,all starting from the pits.

  • Mike – Legends – Wilkesboro – p6 – ran 4th to 5th most of the race – did two stopper and most others did 1 – that bit me
  • Mike – p18 – entered pit on wrong side 40 second penalty

  • Brian- P7 Indy.  Wasn’t quite able to save tires well enough to stay up front, but still had some great racing.

World of Outlaws Week 7 – Cedar Lake [Brian,Mike]

Monday night marked Round 7 of the NOS Energy Drink World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series which brought us to the new Cedar Lake Speedway coming into this week Hayden Cardwell held a slim 4 point lead over Alex Bergeron and Kendel Tucker a distant 3rd.

Bergeron has fast time in qualifying while Cardwell turns in an 8th place finish. and runs away with the first heat earning him pole position for the Feature race

James Edens gaps the field to take heat 2, and Tyler Shell wins heat 3 in a photo finish over Adam Elby.

In heat 4 Zane Scott starts from the pole, but Cardwell quickly clears him on the outside to take over the lead on lap 1, but on lap 2 Cardwell jumps the cushion on turn 2 and wrecks sending him to the back of the field and JD Brown taking the checker.

So, with the points in the heat race Cardwell’s lead had already evaporated before the feature even starts, but still having to advance from the B main to avoid a complete disaster and putting Bergeron firmly in control of the championship.

Cardwell started P4 in the LCQ, took some damage racing for second, but still managed finding the speed to take the win and getting the 18th grid spot in the feature.

In the feature event Alex Bergeron grabbed the lead fighting off challenges from Tyler Schell who was running him down from the extreme high line when on lap 27 he missed his line, hits the wall in turn 3 and flies over the fence, but no cations came out and no fans were injured..

James Edens also put some pressure on Bergeron, but ultimately ran out of laps finishing P2 with Alex Bergeron taking his 4th win of the season. Hayden Cardwell works his way all the way up to P4 averting a points disaster, and landing 10 points behind new points leader Bergeron heading into week 8 at the bullring ok Kokomo Speedway next Monday night.

Follow Up – Won’t Be Cup Drivers [Tony]

Nascar announcer Mike Joy responded to a Tweet from James Yoder who asked if there will be a return of the eNascar Pro Invitational this upcoming year. He responded that he hopes not, because it would have meant a suspension of the Nascar regular season. This implies that the story from last week that Fox Sports may broadcast iRacing events will most likely not be actual Nascar drivers.

Ajibola Lawal posted in the forums that he’s had a blast with the new iR-01 car at Suzuka and Silverstone, but has noticed a sharp drop in participation since it’s introduction. Greg West agreed with someone who responded that the holiday season along with a fairly unpopular track, and to give it some time.

Hi Mike I hope all is well my man. I wanted to ask you if you could help me out by getting the word out about a race that we will be hosting to raise money for autism. The race will be on 2/20/2021. Practice will start at 8:30pm est time and will be just 30mins then Qualifying 5mins or 2 laps. We are calling it Daytona Dirty Monkey 250 Autism Awareness. There will be an entry fee of $15. Which all money will go to autism. The race will be a 100 Laps fix setup. As of right now I don’t have anybody doing the broadcast so I will be doing it myself on Dirty Monkey TV on youtube. There will be prizes for the top 3 finishers. For 2nd and 3rd place they will get a snap hat with the race logo on it. I will put a pic of the hat in this email. iRacing has announced the 20 teams that will comprise the 2021 Coca-Cola series and also that the prize pool for this year has been increased to $330,000. Four teams will not be returning from last year including G2 Esports, Renegades and VRS.
